The McCamey Lady Badgers softball team actually did this twice: the catcher's first ball-into-batter throw occurred with a runner on third base on a potential back pickoff play, but in the 6th inning, the catcher's throw into the batter occurred with a runner on second who was not attempting to advance and with no fielder even in the vicinity of third base to receive a potential throw.
Was this just a misguided attempt at drawing an interference call because the batter was about to step out of the batter's box?
We'll look at National Federation of High Schools Rule 2.35 regarding malicious contact and 3.6.13 regarding unsporting acts, as well as the NFHS point of emphasis from 2015 regarding interference with a specific instruction to coaches to teach their players what they must do regarding this infraction.
