Great video! I'm having the exact problem on my 2003 Sea Ray 340 with 8.1 v-drives. Port engine is overheating after a few minutes. Exhaust water flow looks the same on both sides. Water is flowing through the seacock. So I don't think there is a restriction there. My next step is to verify the raw water impeller and check the heat exchanger. I doubt that is the problem because they were serviced a year ago and the boat hasn't ran much the past year. I was leaning towards a bad thermostat since the boat is over 20 years old and never been changed. Then you said something about fuel. I have gotten a check fuel alert. I also have noticed a gas smell when running. It even smells in the cabin. The strong gas smell would indicate running rich and according to the video, would not cause overheating. Is that correct?

What part does the outdrive play

For a sterndrive system. The drive is the transmission and also has a water pick up just like a outboard. Depending if it is a bravo system the raw water pump will be on the motor, If it is a Alpha system, then the raw water pump is in the outdrive.
