I have two now... but sadly they are not currently set up... With this said... that Vapor Hone machine is an absolute beast!!! I literally would volunteer to sit there day in, and day out doing all of your vapor honing, (For Free)... One of the coolest things I've seen to date!!! Keep up the great work guys... absolutely love what you're doing!!!

Hi Jason. Love your videos. I am a Noise Control Engineer with 35+ years of experience working in one of the best acoustic facilities in the country. I have worked on aerospace, automotive, industrial, and consumer product applications for noise control. The stuff that was on the fuselage for vibration is really pretty effective for air induced vibration on the skins. The insulation used in aircraft is typically from Johns Manville or UPF and is a very small fiber diameter to provide a maximum reduction in sound at a lightweight. Unfortunately, at those fiber diameters, the thermal performance is bad. The aviation manufacturers try to compromise between comfort thermally and acoustically. Since it is easier to heat the cabin at the altitudes the plane flies at, sound reduction gets the focus. Use of foam that you mentioned would be good for vibration reduction, but it is not great at sound reduction. Unless you use a melamine foam, which is pretty brittle, urethane foams tend to dry out and turn to dust after a few years. Don't believe all the marketing crap around foams. They have their place, like in generator enclosures and engine compartments, but they are some of the worst acoustic absorbers/barrier materials. If you want some tips on improving things, I am available to help out.

Paint stripping hack: put thin plastic sheet like visqueen on top of your stripper and let it cook. The absence of air will supercharge your stripper and it will go down through all the layers of paint, straight to bare metal in one application. Plus the stripped paint pulls off with the plastic.

Guys, I think that I've been watching from the beginning, but I have not made any comments. I would like to say that I think that this is wonderful. I have always loved aviation and I always wanted to learn how to fly. But I think that has gone by the way at this point in my life. I do however enjoy seeing a beautiful aircraft come back to life again. It appears to me that you are all the most amazing people. Although I have never met any of you I feel like you are all my friends. I watch you work so hard on this project and give your talents to this plane. You are all very talented and I love watching things get done. As for Joe I really like him. He is delightful to watch use his skill to make this plane be reborn. I don't think that I am able to express my delight watching you all work on the 401 as well as I'd like. Thank you so very much for sharing this great project with all of us. I hope that I can see the final reveal when you get this finished! I must say that I am very excited to see this plane fly again. So, stay safe and have fun! I will be watching .

Watching you and Joe's meticulous attention to detail (MATD) reminds me of a TV commercial I saw many years ago. A master craftsman and his apprentice were making musical instruments, and the apprentice wanted to know why they were doing so much extra work: Apprentice: "Master, why do we work so hard on things no one can see? If we didn't do this, who would know?" Craftsman: "We would know!" Gentlemen, you are master craftsmen!

There is also another reason to go the extra mile. They will be as much as a couple of miles high in this thing, and by going the extra mile, it helps keep it from going oops and falling those couple of miles. In rebuilding something like this, you really can't go too far or be too careful.

Jason, it's looking great. And Joe is doing amazing work. All of you are. He looks like he's having a blast at what he's doing, but I'm sure that's the result of strategic editing. Working on airplanes isn't always fun. A lot of it is, but definitely not all of it. And it certainly isn't glamorous. I figured that out 35 years ago, when I started my aviation maintenance career in the Air Force. People who don't work on airplanes don't realize what goes into doing this work. Getting packed into tight spaces where you can't be comfortable and do what needs done, working with caustic materials because that's what gets the aluminum prepped correctly. Getting your hands pinched/scratched/ cut because the place you have to get them into isn't big enough to get your hands, and the hardware, AND the tools in there all at the same time. Going home with your body screaming at you for working 10 hours hunched over, in the cockpit, between the rudder pedals, behind the instrument panel. Glad to see you guys getting stuff coated in primer. There is no substitute for doing it right, even when the OEM didn't. Of course, back then corrosion wasn't taking a front row seat the way it is now. Don't get in a rush. As one of the guys I work with has said, "no airplane left our shop that wasn't ready". That can't be said of a lot of shops, sadly. It's clear that quality is coming before cost for you. Too many people think that buying an airplane is the biggest expense in the process. Those same people have absolutely no clue what it takes to own an airplane. If you do it right, you will spend many times more money just keeping it in airworthy condition than you ever spent buying the thing. Which is why we see so many owner/operators looking for shortcuts and "cheaper" parts, thinking they are saving money. Little do they know how much more that "cheaper" part is going to be when they have to replace it again, because it wasn't made to specifications or, worse, the airplane falls out of the sky because that "cheaper" part failed. By and large, what you've been doing is fantastic. The old wings could have been removed in a way that didn't call for cutting the holes in the skins, and I've brought that up when that operation happened, but, in the end, it's your airplane. You already had another plan in place, and I'm guessing that you have no intention of having the old wings repaired, then selling them to help offset costs, and that's up to you. Just a small correction though, when the airplane gets painted, you WILL be doing another balance check of all of the flight controls. Balancing with just primer on there would only be necessary if you are going to fly the airplane to another facility to have it painted, which I believe is your plan. You might not be the one's balancing the flight control surfaces again, but someone will be, if they're a certified facility. Once again, the plane is looking amazing.

@@notfiveo Some componants will receive a non distructive inspection, when performing periodic maintenance. There are several types of non distructive inspections, some use a magneting flux with a green flourecant die, some use X-ray as your friend said. On military planes, the landing gear struts get pulled off, stripped down, and tested for small cracks. Flat parts, such as the skin can get X-rayed. Expensive jet engine componants often get mag-fluxed.

Y'all will be so proud of her when she's all finished and Completely Restored.. Glad you rescued her and glad to be a part of it.

Love Joe, he is a hard worker and he knows his stuff. I love a guy who you don’t have to spoon feed on how to do something. We all know he has never worked on airplanes before but it never phases him. Good luck Joe and Rebuild Rescue.

When this project Phoenix was at the end of tear down, i really wondered if it was getting finished or scrapped. Now with Joe, Jason and the rest of the team as well as the companies chipping in. I see it getting done in style and with perfection. Love this series.

I never cease to be amazed at what a tower of power Joe is. He might be a relatively short and quiet fella...but God can he get things done. You can tell the whole teamwork is lifting the guy and I'm damn pleased to see it. Depression sufferer myself and I just wish I was closer as I can't wait to see the 401 fly. Well done to the whole team too. Definitely no I in this team!!! Hello from England in the UK 🇬🇧

Jason, watch out that that big dent in tank doesn't crack when getting it back in shape. Often when a dent is that deep, it will when tapping it out. Before you lay down the insulation in interior, you might want to seal the upper stringers where they contact the skin. It greatly reduces the chance for hidden corrosion between the stringer and skin. Then put the sound deadening material down. THEN, put plastic standoffs for the insulation. Spray the entire interior, sides and below floor, with LPS3 corrosion inhibitor before fastening the insulation to the standoffs. Your fuselage WILL SWEAT so the insulation will be away from the skin and wont get wet and soggy. Love the content!

Hi guys, the 401 is coming along very nicely. I enjoy every episode and love watching the hard work and attention to details being done over every square inch of this airplane. It's obvious you all love doing what you're doing. Especially Joe, whose sheet metal stripping, cleaning, prepping and painting skills are superior! I'd enjoy working alongside you guys (and drinking the coffee)! Cheers from way down in New Zealand, David
