Hey everyone! Today we are tackling my wardrobe with this somewhat chaotic and brutal declutter - I've seen so many closet cleanout videos so I wanted to try and clear out some of my wardrobe with a friend today and do some decluttering. In Part 1, my friend Lucy joined me, and in part 2 we were assisted by Caitlyn. Today, we have the pleasure of witnessing Bek's style choices, as she clears out my wardrobe for me!

Love how your friends don't care if it's designer or not, that's how it should be. If it doesn't flatter you, get rid of it. If you want to preserve it and maybe sell it later because it's designer and valuable, don't have it hanging on a hanger rubbing against other clothes.

I'd like to hear reasons why you want to keep an item other than "it's designer", if there are other reasons. Designer often still means mass produced if it is off the rack. If it doesn't suit your skin tone or style, what else do you like about it that makes you want to keep it?

Regarding the designer set you got to support your friend, you’ve already purchased it and provided the support already so it is fine to let it go to another home now. Especially if it’s not something you wear day to day! Also something being designer is not exactly the best reason to keep something if you’re not using, displaying, or wearing it. If you are keeping it to sell in a few years then preserve it in storage, not in your closet where it can be damaged by friction and dust.

The designer thing, you have photos of you wearing it at Fashion Week, it has served its purpose. You will likely never feel as confident wearing it as you did during Fashion Week. It's better to just sell it on if it is at risk of it depreciating in value.

I kind of wish Alex cared less about labels. If your only justification for keeping clothing is "It's designer" and not that you actually like it and wear it, then what's the point?

It's almost frustrating to watch Alex 'rescue' certain items... Why even put them up for being about to be gotten rid of in the first place, if you dont want to get rid of them. So many things with tags still on them, that she wants to keep, but hasnt even worn them, i am so confused, lol
@GroovyRoo

I am a bit confused. Alex has such huge closet and always wears the same stuff… Girl you should use all your clothes. if you wait for special occasion that don’t come you will never enjoy that clothing. Also, designer doesn’t mean that is made with good taste in mind or good materials. I recommend to focus on what you will realistically use and love and sell the rest. I stopped waiting for perfect occasion to wear something. If makes you happy and makes you feel secure of yourself why keeping something hidden in a closet. I am always over dress to every occasion but my clothes shows my personality and makes me feel fabulous. Life is only once. If I die tomorrow I will die with one of my best outfits on. I wish you all the best in this closet clean up. 🎉

This isn't meant to be mean but holding onto things because of meaning and not because you want to wear it usually isn't great, I just recently was able to give away my previous boyfriend who passed aways clothing. If there's no use for something and you're not wearing it, there's no need for clutter because it also creates stress in your mind as well. They're just material items after all and if you wanna keep something only based on it being designer, that's also not ideal because if you LOVE it and it happens to be designer then cool, but if you're just keeping it only because it's designer then chances are it could go to a better home. I'm guilty of all these things btw but I'm trying my best to not be

This had to be the most frustrating and least satisfying """declutter""" I have ever seen ;u; I love your videos Alex, I really do - I have been watching every single one for years. But why even bother "decluttering" if you can't even say goodbye to a single piece... That was just a waste of time for me to watch. Totally on board with your friends and the comments: don't just keep something for the tiny little clothing tag that has a designer name on it if it looks trash and doesn't suit you...

I think she mentioned in one of the videos she's going through all her friends to see their opinions on what to get rid of and what to keep and I think at the end she's going to declutter what ever was put on the rack by multiple friends. It may not look like she's getting rid of things rn, but I think she will eventually once the series is over and she gets all her friends opinions. I understand being frustrated though with the designer excuse for keeping clothing that you don't even wear.

I'd be interested to hear what Alex defines as designer and how she values something defined as designer. Since technically everything is designed by somebody - is it the expensive or exclusive items that she has a hard time getting rid of? (Excluding memories attached to items that are also designer) The video is only what her friends think she should get rid of and not on what they think of the physical items value. I'd be interested in seeing Alex going through her closet at the end of the series Marie Kondo style with all the friends that do this series and see if she thinks about if she never saw each item again how would she feel?
@KK-mx6oh

Probably my favorite wardrobe episode. Love the honesty. Agree with other comments: just because it's designer doesn't mean it's more worthy of keeping, and just because it's an $8 t-shirt doesn't mean it's less worthy. It's hard getting rid of clothing knowing what you spent on it, how recent you got it, how much you've worn it, etc, but it also feels good knowing you love and wear everything in your closet. If you want to keep it, do that, but question why they say it.
@lindatannock

Alex, something being from a designer isn't a reason to keep something! Loving it and wearing it a lot is! If you don't wear it, sell it. Someone else could enjoy wearing it 😉. It's no use to you just hanging in your wardrobe 😘💜💜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 PS. I'm a clinger-on to clothes I don't wear too, so I get it! Truly. My wardrobe (and overspill) is out of control now. If you have to defend clothing because of capitalistic labelling, there's your answer right there. You have to defend it, that's not good for you nor for your mental health to be a massive pushover with no ability to see what actually looks good and functions properly. If you have things you want to keep as display, wrap it and keep it somewhere else. And the jumper is a great example of that, you went to a fashion event, it's good to keep it as a memorium of memories.

While I do love Lucy (part 1) and Caitlin (part 2) portions of this series, I think that Bek is my fav so far. The bird swoops and genuine befuddlement as to the reason for certain garments were hysterical. Full disclosure, her reactions were very similar to what mine would have been under similar conditions. Excellent camera work by Lucy, however (might be just me) but volume seemed a little low. LOVE you Alex, but yes that last dress looked like cosplay (in the fun game I play at thrift shops: "Clothing or Cosplay") for playing Annabelle (2014 horror/thriller film).

If something doesn't make you feel good in it or serve any purpose but to sit in the closet and be designer then...it's a bit of a waste no?? Hey! To declutter my closet, I turn all my hangers around at the start of the new year so they’re backwards and as I wash and wear things I put it in normally and at the end of the year I go through all of still the backwards facing hangers. Did I not wear it because I didn’t have an event to wear it to? (Not cold enough this year, no fancy date nights, etc) Did I not wear it because it’s itchy? Did I not wear it because it’s looks old and pilly? And donate as much as I feel comfortable with. I have a few items that I always keep because they’re memories or I need them if I travel to my parents home. It’s really helpful to help me question every piece I didn’t wear this year to see if it’s time to let it go.

To be fair I remember seeing photos of you wearing the last purple toned dress and I have to agree with you on that one, it looks stunning on you and its incredibly unique, although not something for every day occasion wear, other than that, i agree with your friends and the comments, designer should not equate to 'can't get rid of', some designer items are meant to be worn once and then passed on for someone else to have a special moment with them, other designer items can be considered staples and to be reworn regularly, I guess it depends on where you categorize those designer items you put back, if you've only worn them once and never again because you can't find an event for them, then perhaps it's time to let go and find some new once-off pieces again

Society is the one that makes us give value to designer items and such it makes want said items so that we can have a higher staning position. One thing if the item is limited, extremely good quality, unique, from a small and independent brand or even if it's an item that you want for a really long time, but not decluterring an item just because it's a designer item it's not a good reason unless it's a vintage item that is no longer produced, most designer brands have the same problems as mid to low tier fashion companies, just with a higher price tag and almost unavailable to "normal" paying customer. Please think if you really want the item or you just want the prestige it gives.

You can see each friends feelings on style and what matters to them according to what they choose to keep/veto. One thing that bugs me is that some styles are considered off limits when you get older.

You seem to think that because it’s “designer” means it’s cool? Coming off a little classist

The volume was a little low for me, but it's fun to see the same pieces get put on the chopping block again and again. I personally have a big (non-designer) fancy dress collection, but I started working at home during the pandemic and now all I want to wear are jeans and t-shirts or active wear. It's hard to think of culling my dress collection, especially when I know I can't just go buy replacements, but this video reminds me that I should be realistic about what I will or won't wear going forward.

I, too, have a problem getting rid of things, but if three people choose it, it's obvious it's time to go regardless of who it's made by sorry Alex 😞 sorry. 💖XXX

Hey, I learned from this week's episode of Vet Ranch that if you have a parrot, you should ONLY pet and preen the head, and maybe neck. If you rub the rest of their body, it uh.. activates hormones.
