The Jets threw defence under the bus in each game, and it showed with just 1 win of a playoff game (which the Jets were lucky to win considering that in that game they’d allowed 6 goals).

@@mdwDenver92 The Jets, as of games that'd ended by the a.m. of 2 May Central Time, had on average/game (GP) scored the 6th-most goals at 3 (tied with the Bruins). Yet on average goals ALLOWED/GP the Jets, at 5.6, have the highest and may very well continue to. Even subtracting empty-netters that average is still an eye-popping 4.8/GP, still ahead of a Kings' team that on average allowed 4.4/GP. The 1st 12 days of 2024 playoff action featured so many good PPs, with the top-7 each having PP% of 30 or more, with the Jets' having come 9th (tied with the Panthers) at 23.1. PK was, tied with the Caps, at 3rd-worst at 62.5%. It didn't matter the Jets won >55% of those faceoffs they'd taken because the Avs had made the most of puck possession they'd had.

The problems that plagued this team all season really came to the forefront in the playoffs - the coaching staff did nothing to address the penalty kill, defensive issues or deployment problems. The Bowness experiment has ran its course and this core is aging out at a rapid rate, really need to bring in a coach that can develop players and gives credence to analytics. The line changes are all related to this: From Murat Ates article in The Athletic - 'Bowness has said many times that he coaches by feel, trusting his gut, and that he’s happier to lose coaching his way than changing his approach to the game.' Well he got his wish he coached this team out of the first round and into the history books.

It's good to trust your gut and he's probably the best coach to bring us into next year, but his tendency to focus on high intensity rather than timing should be addressed. High intensity is just as bad as not enough intensity. Once you got your team into the zone, there's not much that you should do, and if they aren't in the zone, there isn't much you can do.

Defensive issues, not just the PK, led to in the Avs-Jets series, the Jets' downfall. Pressure certainly is on for Kevin Cheveldayoff, for as long as he gets to stay as GM (having not made a strong case to do so given 6 straight seasons of @ most 1 playoff series win [a 2021 sweep of the Oilers]), to make big changes. Of players whose contracts expire in June, pending: - restricted free agents: -- with arbitration rights are Gustafsson, Stanley and, despite being on an entry-level contract, goalie Oskari Salminen (the last under contract via the minors) -- without arbitration rights or 10.2(c) status are Perfetti and, via the minors, Heinola, Simon Lundmark and Artemi Kniazev - unrestricted FAs are Toffoli, Monahan (both ex-Flames), Brenden Dillon, Dylan DeMelo, Brossoit, ex-Canucks' goalie Collin Delia and, via the minors, Kristian Reichel, Jeff Viel, Jeff Malott, Ashton Sauner and Kyle Capobianco
@Tlilancalqui
@Tlilancalqui 6 ай бұрын
@@wainber1 I'd sign Monahan, Dillon and Toffoli, then sign and trade Fetts for a d -man. Obviously the easier path would be to sign Fetts, DeMello and Stanley, and then look to patch holes at the trade deadline. But whatever the case may be if your looking to go in a new direction right now, you might as well sell the team too, because the only reason to slash and burn at this point would be because you have no business owning a hockey team.

Huge Avs fan, and always a secret Winnipeg fan. Grew up in MN, and used head up to play in Winnipeg as a kid. Sux for the Jets, and their fans, but the Jets are (will be) a strong team. The Avs were firing on 3 cylinders the five weeks leading up to the playoffs. As of game 1 (or better yet, 2), the Avs immediately fired on all cylinders, and if that happens, they can beat just about anyone. Better luck next year. Someone send a top scout into northern MN and see if you can get Big Byf out of retirement!

One thing you forgot to mention is that you ran into an Avalanche team that is so good offensively they can basically outscore most of their mistakes they make in a game. All 4 lines produced on the scoreboard in this series. Remember, the jets were good enough in game one to have the Avs hang 6+ goals on the best goalie in the league and still lost the game. The Avs are so solid on both offense and defense this season that it will be a shock if they don't win the cup. The only soft spot in the lineup is in the goal but if you can put up more than the opponent scores it is less trouble for you. Georgiev came up big when he needed to to keep the Avs in the game. The Avs averaged 4+ goals a game all year. That is tough to stop. The Jets have a solid core and should be good for seasons to come. I am not sure what will happen with the front office but it was a fun series at least from an Avs fan perspective. There was very minimal cheap garbage on the ice. Both teams played damn hard and played great hockey.

It was great seeing the Jets click this season when they had their forecheck going, defence and Hellebyuk shutting things down. I agree that coaching has to be able to adjust when a game plan isn’t working. Also, watching the Jets repeatedly dump the puck in was getting too predictable. Still they finished 4th in the regular season and were top of the league for a while. Hopefully next season will build on this year’s successes. 🙂🏒✈️

@@oozyalmond7079Look at the amount of high danger chances the Jets were giving up. You give up high danger chance after high danger chance, it will not matter who's in net. Look at Game 4. The first period, there was a stretch where they were outshot 13-1, and Hellybuyck was the only reason the score wasn't 10-1. The Jets defense got totally caved in. You think LB would have done better with the team allowing that many high-danger chances? When the Jets scored first in Game 5, they proceeded to then get out shot 7-2 with multiple high danger chances allowed until the Avs tied it. The best teams in these playoffs may give up 3-4 high danger chances a game. The Jets were giving up 15-20 because nobody could handle the puck and they were constantly being push off the puck by Avs' players.

We need an actual Superstar and someone that can be physical like Buff. Ever since he left the only physical guys we have are Lowry and Stanley. Stanley takes way too many penalties, Lowry is honestly our MVP but we need a physical D man as well as a goal scorer. The Avalanche had 3 90+ point players (2 with 100+) and our leader in points? Mark Scheifele 72 points.

I said it after 2022 and again last year. The blueline is not good enough. It's a steep dropoff in quality after Morrissey. They can't manage the puck, they are too slow, and they don't provide enough offense to make up for the poor defense. It doesn't matter that they had a 3 goals or less streak or that some guys are great for the room. The defense is average. And this is exactly why Stanley should not have been protected over Declan Chisholm. The d-corp needs guys that can skate and move the puck. Chisholm had that.

The fact jets fans were so confident in winning this series after barely getting through game 1 made the end result so much better. Jets played a hell of a season. They are really a few key moves away from being a solid competitor in the post season. The need to get better defensive coaching , especially on the pk. That is crucial when there is no room to play 5 on 5 and in this series how the jets handled their special teams was just not it. . Personally ive never liked Bowness and his style leaves a lot to be desired in the post season. You can have the most entertaining deep team all throughout the season but go completely limp in the post season with his system. Make a couple trades get a stronger d core and a better coaching staff. Lots of players on the jets are hungry now, especially after two pitiful showings two years in a row. They will be something to fear soon enough.

Michael Misa is the centerpiece to build a franchise around and I want him on our team. He'll sell tickets & win us championships if we get him. Sure Helle could have played a bit better but the bad bounce off Pionk, all the penalties, there was always a guy in front of Helle and the D were no where to be found to get them out of there, and that led to deflections and most of there goals this series. @pomerlain8924
@pomerlain8924 6 ай бұрын
Exactly. No, Helly did not play his best, but the team in front of him down. Game 4 was a prime example. It was shooting gallery with a bevy of high danger chances. If you continuously allow high danger chance after high danger chance, the puck is going in the net, no matter who the goalie is. You look at the goalies who've performed well this postseason, the common theme is that the team in front of them played sound defensively, and at worst, only gave up a few high danger chances. Can we say Swayman has been under siege playing behind the Bruins? Stuart Skinner had a 33-save shutout and he only faced 4 high danger chances the whole game. The Jets were giving up 4 high danger chances every 5-10 minutes. The Jets defensive structure picked the exact worst time to go AWOL. And the offense wasn't there. Georgiev looked good, but even Avs' fans were saying that the Jets weren't really testing him because they weren't shooting enough. The top line underperformed. The second line was almost non-existent and hardly any offense came from the third and fourth lines.

Bowness might be the most stubborn, incompetent, out of his depth head coach in NHL history. In 87 games, he didn't learn a single thing. The special teams were bad from the first game of the year. No correction or even attempt to fix them. The line combo's were strong for very brief periods of the year. When they weren't working, no correction or attempt to try anything new. I mean for goodness sakes, how many games does it take figure out Stanley sucks? Pionk sucks? Connor is a bad linemate with Scheifele? These things were evident all year! Perfetti has a rough stretch and is pulled out of the lineup. Okay. But for 20 games?? Then he comes back and plays damn well and then goes back to the press box anyway???? Game 5 we finally use new lines and actually generate offence! Oops, right back to the original lines, completely destroying all momentum. Colin Miller should have been in the lineup all series too! He seriously thought playing Samberg and Stanley (with Samberg on his off hand??) was better than putting Miller in? Beyond brain dead. Without exaggeration the fanbase could have iced a better lineup. Yes the defence played their 5 worst games of the year, and yeah Helle wasn't great either. But Bowness sold this team HARD!! This could be the best Jets team we see for a long time to come, and we'll never know what the endgame could have been because we let a fucking dinosaur sabotage what was such a promising year.

Bones problem is that he doesn't know how to properly deploy guys through the line-up and he's too stubborn to make changes. When Connor was out with injury, the top line with Ehlers, Scheifele and Vilardi was humming effectively and performing like a top line and scoring goals at a great clip. Connor comes back from injury and is immediately inserted back onto the top line, and the offense dried up. And it was clear after a few games that it was not working, but Bones continued with Connor and Scheifele being on the top line for over 2 months. And during that the stretch, the Jets went 14-14-2 and were on a 6-game losing streak. It wasn't until he finally swapped Ehlers and Connor that the Jets finally snapped their losing streak. But Bones wasted away two months by putting Connor back on the top line and not changing it. It was also clear after 1 game, that Logan Stanley needed to be in the press box and Colin Miller needed to draw in. A puck-moving defenseman with a heavy shot. Instead, Bones continued to go with Stanley, who was terrible at managing the puck and took undisciplined penalties, and it wasn't until Game 5 that Miller finally was inserted into the line-up.

Also, keep in mind, the line combinations were changed prior to the start of Game 5 and they were working for the first 40 minutes of the game. The only reason the game wasn't tied was because of the own goal by Pionk. But in the third, guess who decided to go back to old line combinations that weren't working for previous 3 games? Guess who decided to chain Perfetti to the bench? That falls on Bowness.

Jared Bednar said, that’s our secret sauce is pure effort…act like you want to be there and play to win a hockey game. Jets got no heart.

@@alyssainnis4432 It's on the coach to insert the right players to jumpstart the team. Stanley is the slowest one of the worst puck-handling defensemen on the Jets, and he's put out to play against a fast-skating Avalanche team and taking stupid penalties. That's on coaching as he should have been scratched after Game 1 and Colin Miller should have got in. Axel Jonsson-Fjallby is brought up for his speed and help on the penalty kill and he's not used on the penalty kill. That's on coaching. The penalty kill was far too passive and the power play far too predictable and it had been a problem all season. That's on coaching. Yeah, the players should play with heart but it's also on the coach to deploy players properly throughout the line-up to help the team effectively. And far too often, Bones has been too stubborn to make changes. And there's also the fact that when a guy like Ehlers struggled, he was demoted. But when Connor or Scheifele struggle, nothing happened. So, two sets of standard set by the coach.

Well another typical Jets choke when it matters season.anyone who thought this was a championship team should seek medical advice. Players don't come to Winnipeg for the chance at a championship. These are guys that can't elevate themselves to compete in the playoffs and can't get a contract elsewhere.. any team or player that cries the coach was unfair to criticize them and fracture our egos and hurt our million dollar feelings are not championship ship caliber nor is a coach that will humiliate himself by allowing everyone to pressure him to apologize. It's no wonder that a team that played in the second smallest venue had less than a dozen sell out games with all of them coming after the all-star break and a majority of those after the owners cried about it. That tells you even the fans know the team is a joke. Face it the last time Winnipeg ices a championship team was the last year of the W.H.A.

Nah pretty sure 6 goals a game did. Hellebuyck and terrible coaching sealed the deal for the Jets this season. Better luck next year!
