Planes have to follow lanes. Going from 1 airporr to an other you need to follow lanes at specific height depending on which direction you are going. So it would make sense to have highways for flying cars. Head on collisions would be common in cities otherwise.

This is my biggest concern about this game - it seems to be on some pretty hard rails. From what I've seen of it so far, you have almost complete freedom when it comes to roaming around the city itself (aside from some locked out areas), but the storyline doesn't seem to offer any choices.

@@rodh1404 Considering it is fully voice acted and open world and by an indie studio, they are already doing more than most could hope for. The choice to lock you into a linear story (presumably) is probably because they wanted to put effort into telling a decent story rather than a bunch of not very good stories.

In civilian aviation, "eastbound" traffic generally flies at odd 1000' foot intervals, plus 500 feet (or just odd 1000's if you're on an instrument - no looking outside the cockpit needed - flight plan). "Westbound" traffic flies at even 1000's, plus 500 ft if it's a visual flight. That helps deconflict flights going in opposite directions. I'd assume this traffic pattern would address it sort of like that. Or with more traditional "roads" that are all one way inside the city, from surface to 3000' or something. That might be better if everyone has a flying car, now that I think about it, with layers and places to climb/descend between them like the game suggested. ...then you'd still have to address cross traffic, though, which I guess you would want to do based on altitude. Maybe colored building lights at different levels, but mostly sensors/AI to keep things at the right altitude. Manned air traffic control (communication for emergencies only, and automatic accident reports) would be essential. Cities developed without a grid pattern would be trickier. Maybe all air traffic would take place above the city, with "descenders" in certain places, and other out-of-the-way places as ascenders/"on ramps." Or - heh - since this is some kind of dystopian-leaning corporate place - maybe they handle it with "premium" flight zones, and insurance that gets more expensive if you don't use them. This game is better than I thought it would be, on several levels.
