This video covers the use of the household cleaner CLR for the cleaning of carbon and lead coated stainless steel suppressor baffles. This method should NOT be used on aluminum baffles as CLR will damage aluminum. In addition, working with suppressors, this cleaning method and the byproducts produced by this method are hazardous. Proper protective equipment should be used at all times. All methods of suppressor cleaning create hazardous byproduct material.

I've gone with the Harbor Freight Rock Tumbler. I use the small stainless steel rods in it. I vary with solvents but last night I used some Balistol, Citric acid powder, liquid dish detergent and water. I ran the baffles for 24 hours and they came out almost completely clean. I did have to scrap some lead caked on a few using a small knife and/or a brass bristle tooth brush. Another thing I did last time, and I believe which made cleaning a breeze this time was to, once completely clean, I baked the baffles and tube in an oven at 250 degrees for about 30 minutes. From the oven and still hot I immersed all the peaces in a jar of silicone oil (which I purchase on Amazon for this purpose). After the pieces cooled (I actually left mine in the bath overnight) I let the silicone oil drip off the pieces but re-assembled the suppressor with the pieces still coated in oil. The oil does two things... I think it acts to make the suppressor essentially a "wet" suppressor and I really believe the heat treatment and soaking allowed me to wipe off most of the carbon. The Rock Tumbler and steel rods removed most of the lead. The biggest issue for me now is the lead. It is not as excessive as it was before the silicone oil treatment but is still occurs. I'm wondering, since the melting point of lead is much lower than stainless steel I wonder if I can "spot" melt the lead using a blowtorch??

Thank you. I tried it and left my stainless steel baffles in the clr for 4 hours then wiped it clean just as you stated. It worked very well.

I have an old military rifle US 30-06; I used CLR on it, cleaned up real nice, but use 91% alcohol afterward to kill all remains of CLR.

Lol Gunrunner. I’ve been using an m&m mini’s tube for my Element 2 for just about the past 10 years. Thanks for the tip on CLR. I never thought of that. Looks like it does a great job. Thanks again brother.

How many times have you cleaned you baffles with this method? You ever notice any pitting or corrosion to the stainless steel from the CLR? Thanks

I have the same can, I was actually looking on KZbin to see if anybody was using CLR and if they dilute it, also love the M&M tube idea

Is it cool for my tube to be 6061 t6 hard coat aluminum and just my baffles to be stainless steel..... (For 2.23 & 5.56) ????

Several manufacturers still go this route for some of there "hunting" line of suppressors. B&T makes a .338 Lapua rated aluminum and steel can. On a 5.56 gun I just wouldn't do mag dump after mag dump on a shorty.

How do you clean the tube?
@gunrunner2192
@gunrunner2192 3 жыл бұрын
i use a baby bottle cleaner brush. I hose the inside of the tube down with clp or g96. let sit for 5 minutes or so then use the brush to scrub. The plastic bristles do not harm the tube and the in and out motion of cleaning a tube isnt even real work. wipe off, coat with light oil.... done!

Will this work with Octane 45 baffles ?
@silentanddeep
@silentanddeep 2 жыл бұрын
Worked well. I only cleaned the baffles of the Octane 45. 5 hours in pure CLR. I had around 100 rds through it including some plain lead bullets. I'd judge it got 99.2% of the dirt off.

@@silentanddeep sorry for the late response, but yes it should work. I looked up the specs on the octane 45 and it appears the baffles are stainless steel. DO NOT USE ON THE TUBE OR END CAPS. Also, put a magnet to the baffles, if they attract you know youre good to go
