Club Car DS - Avoidable Oil Leak!

Great video and I’m sure happy I came across your KZbin channel. I’m one of the 90% volunteers that work at a nine hole golf course and I’ve sort of have taken over the maintenance and repair of all the Club’s equipment. We have 4 Club Car 2002 DS and one of them is causing me grief. I think the next step is pulling the engine out and inspecting it more closely. I’ve already rebuilt one of these a few years ago. This one particular DS is presently burning oil with visible smoke coming from the exhaust. Engine light was on and oil was low - refilled the oil to proper level and proceeded with my diagnostic. The engine pressure is still around 150 - I believe this is within specs. When you first start this cart, you almost always have to hold the choke in to get it going. I notice yesterday that the air tube between the air filter box and carburetor was almost sliced in half. Replaced this hose and ran it for a good hour in maintenance mode. Starting and stopping it several times. There was no visible smoke coming from the exhaust when testing the cart on and off and it seemed to start every time when I was testing it without chocking it. I left it for a few hours and came back to it and of course had to choke it to get it going. Engine light lit up again and oil was low again! Right now, I told the clubhouse not to rent it and we will be pulling it in back to the garage to see what else I can find. Oh, I also added a spark tester and we seem to have a visible spark every time we try to make it work…. Not sure if the ignition coil is weak or not, is there a way to tell? The biggest issue is having to choke it to start it almost every time it stops and goes and the burning of the oil right now. What would be your recommended procedure to start diagnosing these issues. Thanks in advance for your help.

Didn’t see you install the oil screen that fits into the gasket under a tab. Mine doesn’t sit flush in the crankcase and was wondering if you’ve had any experience with it?
