not quite. you can be partial or objective and he is being partial here. It is clear that Dmx should be number one on the Mount Rushmore because he is the most successful defjam artist as a pure defjam artist. next should be LL since he is the Pioneer, but lets face it 20 years from now people will still listen to the biggest dmx hits while they will not listen to LL since he is simply the foundation that layed the groundwork for the artform to advance more. the other two on the list should be run dmc as a duo. and if you want to be technical and not allow duos just Run(not dmc) and finally public enemy. simply because of the pioneer factor and strong influence they had on the culture and how it impacted what the label ultimately became. but if you had to take just one it would be Chuck D and not flavor flav. but it should be the duo. jay z and Kanye and the others were with other labels and only getting distribution from defjam so they do not count. Back then, even they would tell you "Its the Roc!" so how could they be on the Mount Rushmore? makes no sense. Dmx, LL cool J, Run Dmc, Public enemy = being objective =)

He is being a bit messy. He trying to stir up controversy. First he tells LL to give him his version of Mount Rushmore, and when he gives his answer he doesn't like the answer, and wants to change the timetable parameters to includes ALL who ever was/is on Def Jam. He kept trying to goad him into putting Jay Z on there, or to say why he doesn't think he should be on there. Just instigating!!! Nope, I hope your know US History better than that. Only Washington & Jefferson were Founding Fathers. Lincoln- kept the country together when another president might have just let the South separate. That is arguably every bit as important as founding father without actually being one. Teddy Roosevelt- pales in comparsion, it ironic that he isn't even the most significant President Roosevelt. (If Rushmore was comissioned in 1957 instead of 1927 it is very likely Franklin that is the Roosevelt on Rushmore).

I remember me and my peoples seeing LL Cool J at The Tunnel nightclub in NYC back in 1989. The infamous Tunnel hip-hop nights on Sundays, did not begin until 1994. This was back when The Tunnel was known as a house music club, and on Friday's they had "Hip-House Night", playing both rap and house music. Anyway, L was with a few of his peoples, and me and my crew yelled out: "Peace LL!!! You da man god!!! L walk through his peoples and greeted everyone in my crew. There was 6 of us, and he asked each one of for our names, and asked if we wanted an autograph. We said: "Nah, we good! We just wanted to show you some love!" LL was riding high off the fame from the Walking Like A Panther album, and the "Jingling Baby" Marley Marl remix single. But he was mad gracious that night. In fact, a couple of hours later, we saw L in another section of the club, and LL dapped us up again, and remembered our names. I was going by my 5 Percenter attribute at the time, which was Jaheem, and LL yelled out: "Peace Jaheem!" I was grinning ear-to-ear like little kid, lol. LL Cool J should be on everyone's top 10 Greatest Rappers of All-Time list! The brother is a straight legend, who is still doing it since 1984! Salute L!

So much hate just for mentioning EPMD. Who would have thought? I know all this probably better than most of you. I've been listening to Def Jam records since 1985. It's just my opinion, just like it's LL's opinion. If you only count "foundational" artists who were originally on the label, you would have to include Slayer and Jazzy Jay & T-LaRock.

@@marquesekj then you have no respect for history and who came before, those who had to lay down sacrifices. Newer generations always gonna learn from their hits and mistakes, build upon what was already there but adding from unique experiences. If 90s generation grew up without listening to the 80s and what reflected their time, their sound would definitely be different, if they would make any music at all. You gotta understand what "Mt. Rushmore" represents. The 80s mark a major shift in hip hop, rappers, and and how it was comercialized.

LL and RUN DMC was my introduction to hip hop. That man created most of imagery hip hop grew into. From the swag n Kango, from IM BAD to I need Love. He rapped to the female audience when it was unpopular. He brought the GOAT label to hip hop. He had the looks, the swag, the rhymes. That tattoo is legendary, his tv and movie career was very successful and also was one of the first outside of hip hop movies to play different and major roles in Hollywood from hip hop. LL is the blueprint of hip hop success
