When we looked up the showtimes for the various movie theaters in the city, the newspaper entry had an 'A', 'B' or 'C' so you could ensure that you would see a different ending at the repeat showing. None of the three were identified as THE true ending. That came later with the release of the movie on VHS tape.

Have you ever given any thought to the kingdom of Heaven? Mrs. Peacock: What!? The Chief: Repent. The kingdom of heaven IS at hand. Miss Scarlet: You ain't just whistlin' Dixie. The Chief: Armageddon is almost upon us. Professor Plum: I got news for you - it's already here! Mrs. Peacock: Go away! The Chief: But your souls are in danger! Mrs. Peacock: Our lives our in danger, you beatnik! or Professor Plum: What are you afraid of? A fate worse than death? Mrs. Peacock: No, just death. Isn't that enough?

A movie that has a very similar feel that I highly recommend is "Noises Off", 1992, which is based off a play and is STAGED as a play in three acts: first the rehearsal for the play, then a performance of the play from the view of the audience, and finally as a performance as seen from backstage. It stars Christopher Reeve, John Ritter, Michael Caine, Carol Burnett and Nicollette Sheridan, among others. It's a glorious farce and funny as hell.
@davidmcleod5133

Close. Act One is the rehearsal, Act Two is backstage when we see drama starting to erupt, Act Three is the absolutely terrible performance from the audience view. And it’s good to know I’m not the only person who thinks of that film whenever Clue comes up! 😊

My local theater did a stage version of Noises Off. My brother in law is the tech director and he drew up the set/stage in SketchUp to see if it would fit. He figured out that he could in fact just barely make it and rotate the set as a whole to get the front/back aspect of the show. It worked great. At intermission the theme from 2001 played while the stage crew rotated the one piece set. For the movie, the cast is *amazing* and definitely in similar humorous vein as Clue.

"Tim Curry! Awesome!!!" Tim carries this film on his back. The entire third act is him doing a solo recap of the first two acts, with a manic madcap energy that shows through the sweat on his brow by the finale 🥵 It's a shame Tim has fallen on poor health since his stroke, and we wish him only the best. If you haven't seen Rocky Horror Picture Show, throw it on a musical list. Also, Ridley Scott's Legend, with Tom Cruise - look for the version with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack for my preferred cut. Tim is the best part of both, with captivating and magnetic performances 🤩

Mr Green and Yvette couldn't have killed the motorist. Anyone could have killed the last three because they were all split up by that point. The only one who couldn't have done it as part of a pair with Yvette was Mr Green, and he could have done it as part of a pair with Wadsworth.

Love that you had such a blast watching this. One of my favorite comedies and simply a perfect adaptation of something as strange to adapt as a board game. About the tape recording being in being inadmissible in court, it varies from state to state how many parties have to agree to being recorded from both sides or just from one side. If it was set in a two party consent state then everyone would need to agree. California, Florida, and Pennsylvania are two party so if it was set in PA then it wouldn't be admissable.

One of the reasons (besides the obvious ones) that the final/third ending is best is because the whole “everybody did it” idea is a very clever homage to the immortal Agatha Christie, her work, and specifically the ending of one of her most famous stories. The idea plays out VERY differently in the original Christie story but the reference is pretty clearly intended in the ending of this movie. I’m purposely not spoiling the Christie story or even naming it in case Jen ever gets around to watching any of the movie adaptation of her books.

There actually is a play version a friend of mine was in much. They shuffled up and selected the cards like the game and left them on stage to reveal at the end of the play. The person who drew the cards is the only one who knew and their dialog changes, which reveals to the actors which path was selected.

Between Tim Curry, Lee Ving, Jane Wiedlin (The Go-Go's) and Michael McKean (Spinal Tap), this movie has bona fide rock star cred. Add Howard Hesseman in there for good measure (an actual rock station DJ in his younger days, as well as playing Dr. Johnny Fever on WKRP). 🤟🎶

When this came out, our local mini-mall theatre, which had 4 screens showed the film quite interestingly. Screen 1 showed ending 1, screen 2 was ending 2, screen 3 was ending 3 and screen 4 showed THIS version, showing all three endings. When they RE-released it onto DVD there is now an option to choose endings 1, 2 or 3 PLUS the option to select "random ending" that way, you don't know which ending you're watching until the end. :)

Great reaction Jen. Or is it Miss Lavender? 😊 Usually when I watch Clue, I'll also watch Murder by Death. It's a detective movie spoof, and a lot of fun. Knowing a little Agatha Christie, Thin Man, and Charlie Chan is helpful, but not necessary. Madeline Kahn was also in Blazing Saddles, (which I thought you saw, but if you haven't, you should), and High Anxiety, (which is Mel Brooks' tribute to Alfred Hitchcock.) Haunted Honeymoon is another murder mystery comedy, that you might consider for Halloween. I know you like going into them blind, so I'll only say that you love the lead actor.

This made my night. Thank you for doing this reaction. I love this movie. My family had the DVD that randomly play different endings, thus, it never got old. I think another mystery comedy is Murder by Death, but there are some others albeit the ones I can think of are black and white older movies. Arsenic and Old Lace. (A great one for Halloween since it is set at that time.) The Thin Man movies. (There are many of them.) And others, many others that I can't seem to remember at the moment.

Love 'Arsenic & Old Lace'. One of my all time favorites. Great movie that I would Highly recommend For 'Murder by Death' . The movies, &/or characters, she would need to watch/know before watching it re The Thin Man movies. I think there are 6, but just the first, maybe second movies are needed to get/understand the characters Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot. Characters from Agatha Christy Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. The character is Extreme ethnic misrepresentation Sam Spade, fictional character, the quintessential hard-boiled private detective, the protagonist of a novel (The Maltese Falcon, 1930) and several short stories by Dashiell Hammett.

Clue is a fictionalized version of the board game. It has many features from this game, such as the characters and colors of the pawns, as well as the pawns standing next to each other go beyond the board, so here they also have a problem when they go through the door together. In cinemas, each of the three endings was played randomly so that people would not know which one was true.
