(Vader Voice) NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! But the more articulate response: There was one prequel where they hired lookalikes to play the main characters but low-key tried to mislead people in the marketing. I didn't see the sequel, but most of those who saw the movie that I talked with disliked it. If you're interested in seeing more Jeff Daniels, Terms of Endearment is a must-watch (warning: it's a tearjerker). He was also pretty good in the TV movie Gettysburg (the film takes liberty with some of the history, and is a touch Lost-Causey, but the movie has top-tier acting from a lot of top-tier actors).

The best thing about this movie is Jeff Daniels. Jim Carrey had blown up at this point, but this was his first feature film where he shares the spotlight with someone else, and Jeff Daniels (who wasn’t know for comedy) keeps up with him the entire time, and never plays second fiddle. That said, the Big Gulp line was always my favorite, and from what I remember, it was completely improvised by Carrey. The Truman Show was Jim Carrey’s break-out drama role, and kind of blew a lot of peoples’ minds, both with its story, and Carrey’s performance. Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind is also worth a watch. I’m a little biased on that one, because I absolutely adore Kate Winslet, and think she and Jim Carrey had great chemistry, though it’s not really held in as high of a regard as The Truman Show these days. Since I brought up Kate Winslet, I’d recommend The Reader, Little Children, Iris, and Heavenly Creatures. The last of which came out the same year as Dumb and Dumber (1994 was an amazing year; we’re lucky to have grown up when we did), and was Peter Jackson’s first real foray into drama, after doing low budget body horror up until that point (and going on to do the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Get Back). This is completely random, but “The Reader” reminded me of “The Believer”, from 2001. It’s one of Ryan Gosling’s first dramatic roles, in which he plays a Jewish neo-nazi (based on a true story). It’s probably a little too heavy and political to watch on your channel, but I think it’s one of the best films ever made about modern antisemitism and Jewish identity. Oh yeah, and the best film of the aughts (just my opinion - but I’m correct in this instance) is Lost in Translation. You need to watch Lost in Translation.

So, as a fan of Jim Carrey's work when it was still new in the 90's, here's some fun facts you might not know that you do now: 1) First thing's first: Jim's chipped tooth is 100% real! He chipped his tooth as a child, and now wears a cap over it. 2) Jeff Daniels was told by his people NOT to make this movie, as they thought Jim would drag him down, and make him irrelevant. Jeff's key to success: "Let Jim be the dog and I'll be the leash." This movie made him a household name. 3) Back to the dog/leash metaphor, most of this movie is improvised, with Jim leading the way (the dog) and Jeff just following along (the leash). 4) The scenes of just Jeff were actually filmed first (including the toilet scene). 5) Jim wanted a serious actor to play Harry because he knew if it was another comedian, the movie would tank. 6) The Farrelly Brothers have directed other Jim Carrey hits such as "Me Myself & Irene" and "Dumb & Dumber To". I think they also directed him in "Fun with Dick & Jane" and "Yes Man."

The guy that played the baddy, Charles Rocket, lived half a mile from where I grew up. In junior high I was close friends with his younger brother. I visited the house one time, and it scared the s**t out of me. My friend claimed the house was haunted, and said the family would hear footsteps in the attic and doors closing on their own. My friend also claimed that the family were descendants of Abraham Lincoln. My friend had a portrait of Abraham Lincoln in his bedroom, and the eyes would follow you as you walked. That was enough to convince me that something was deeply wrong with the house, and I never visited again. One and done. I remember being introduced to one of his older brothers; I'm pretty sure it was Charles. What a shame that Hollywood chewed him up and spat him out.

Fun facts: Jim Carrey's chipped tooth was real. It got chipped from a fight with a classmate when he was a kid. For Carrey's dramatic scene (when he says he's tired of having nobody), he said it reminded him of when he and his family was struggling and living out of their car. The producers didn't want Jeff Daniels to play Harry because he had established himself as a dramatic actor, so they offered him a low salary to dissuade him, but he took the part anyway. The toilet scene especially worried his agent, who said that if they kept that scene, his career would be over, but Daniels wasn't worried. In fact, Clint Eastwood even told him he loved the scene because it happened to him once. Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly (who plays Mary) actually married in real life, but the marriage didn't last long. Carrey improvised the most annoying sound in the world and the "Big gulps" and "We landed on the moon!" line. The guy who got punched through the phone booth was Fred Stoller, who also did a lot of voice work. The original ending had Harry and Lloyd getting on the bus, but Carrey refused to film it because he said their characters would be too stupid to do that.

I see this the movies twice. I was 13 when it came out. It’s still the hardest I’ve ever heard a movie crowd laugh.

We were eatin' good in the mid 90s with all these comedy movies with special thanks to Jim Carrey. I remember him being a guest on SNL in 1996 and it had to be one of the funniest episodes I had ever seen. He is a master of comedy.

Jen, I had a rotten week, especially today -- I can't tell you how much I needed to see this reaction of yours. Thanks for giving me some laughs tonight!

Black hole expert Stephen Hawking loved this film and all of Jim Carrey's work. Jim even traveled to meet with the physicist in England: dumb and smarter! One of the pranks those two rascals did was to have Hawking pretend to drive his wheelchair over Jim's foot. The occasion was immortalized in photos that can be found in various black holes of the internet.

Dante's Peak is a great overlooked disaster movie, featuring Linda 'Sarah Connor' Hamilton and Pierce 'Hello Jennypenny' Brosnan. It's lots of fun.

I first realized Jim Carrey had range when I saw him in a TV movie called “Doing Time on Maple Drive”. It was a dysfunctional upper middle class family and Jim Carrey was the alcoholic brother. Bi difference from his In Living Color and Ace Ventura roles. Oh, and that was a big year for Jeff Daniels too as he was in Dumb and Dumber and Speed…different roles so he has range too.

Hilarious! 😂 Great reaction. 💜 I like 'Kingpin' (1996), which is a Farrelly Bros sports comedy, it's a bit gross at times though. Sweet at other times. Good cast.

Not sure if anyone already told you... But yes.. Jim Carey chipped his tooth when he was younger and he had it fixed. So Jim Carey had the Idea that it would be funnier if he had his chipped tooth again for this role.. so he had that piece removed just for the movie and re-fixed it after filming. So yeah.. real chipped tooth.. and he was right.. Made it that much funnier! lol

I think this is the funniest movie I've ever seen, lol, and I haven't been able to figure out why. I think it's a combination of luck and talent. Most comedy movies aren't carried by two genius actors. My low-key MVP this one is Lauren Holly! She's very talented and played a convincing character here. Somehow you really believed that she was way too good for these guys. And IRL she was in a long-term relationship with Jim Carrey for years before this! In a CBC interview she talked about heartbreak and how she build Jim a "costume closet" in their home. That's love!!!

oh this was one to see in the theater... there were moments of just black out laughter where you couldn't hear the movie for the next five minutes... the montage in aspen had me in tears.

18:40 Fun Fact: These two guys were just in the store and the director asked them to stand outside...Jim Carrey's line was a total ad-lib.

The Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby) are also well known for their next three comedy films "Kingpin" (1996), a cult classic sports comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Randy Quaid and Lin Shaye from the Insidious franchise, "There's Something About Mary" (1998), a well known romantic comedy classic starring Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon and Lin Shaye again, and "Shallow Hal" (2001), a pretty good but controversial gross out comedy starring Jack Black, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jason Alexander and Laura Kightlinger. Peter Farrelly would go on to direct "Green Book" (2018), which actually won Best Picture at the Academy Awards that year!
