Abolish qualified immunity and take settlements out of the police union pension fund! Guaranteed they'll fix this.

@@kimwalsh sure, it is the case that their pension and legal settlements both come out of our taxpayer dollars, however that's basically doubling up on the cost to us because they generally still keep their pension even with settlements paid out, if the settlements themselves come out of their pensions, the current additional cost to the taxpayer would be dramatically reduced, it's absolutely a reasonable solution and i would argue the only morally and ethically correct one going forward

The Civil Rights Lawyer uploaded a video about a man who allegedly road his ATV through his neighbors yard. His neighbor called the police about "damage" to his grass. Since the police didn't like the ATV guy over criticism of the department on social media, they decided to argue with him from outside his house, before deciding they would unlawfully arrest him. They broke into his home, handcuffed a woman he was with, and shot him to death after claiming he had a bat. The whole scenario was unlawful. I do remember this woman's case, I have no doubt she's suffered some kind of mental trauma from the event and probably doesn't feel safe in her home. But it's almost a weekly occurrence that someone gets shot or some other tragedy due to cops not being able to get the address correct.

Not only that, 'department policy' outright forbids the simple humanity of an honest apology. Even if there actually _were_ a decent, honest cop on the scene, capable of acknowledging to themselves that they'd fckd up *_enormously,_* and that someone else was going to suffer because of it, they couldn't actually _say so._ They can't say, "We're really sorry, this was our mistake, you did nothing wrong, we're going to get you some help and try to fix this," like a decent human being might say. Admitting to their mistake would be seen as an automatic confession of guilt in the inevitable lawsuit, so they're all taught to never do that. Instead, she gets a lot of copsplaining and empty, non-apologies, where they pretend they honestly thought they were in the right place, how it could happen to anybody, and they're sorry she got so upset . . . It's a perfect example of the horrible problems caused by both modern American police culture, and a society that tries to deal with every problem by suing someone.
