Great tips on the oil and fuel systems. Very underrated mods. Everyone goes on about turbos, exhausts etc without doing the basics. Bravo gents.

Thanks for another awsome segment Suspension is critical Which suspension (if someone was keeping their struts) would you recommend, including sway bars and or adjustable end links
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day mate and thanks for watching. When you say, keeping your struts, I assume you don't want to go with a new coilover setup? They are the best suspension mod as they are adjustable and offer high levels of performance. If you want to keep your struts, one of the best mods is to replace the oem shock absorbers with new ones (they require replacement over time) and fit stiffer springs. Thicker sway bars help reduce body roll and one of the most underrated suspension mods is to ensure all your bushes are working effectively and replace them with new ones. Finally, a wheel alignment with some negative camber is my last recommendation- try 1-2 degrees of negative camber but remember you will start to wear your tyres on the inside shoulder in the pursuit of performance!

The best honest advice about the ls (for me anyway). My ls is cammed, otr, maf tuned, lifters, dyno. But it pug roots in and around town and gets a bit of a jerk on highways in 6th. Would a hsv gear set (diff) be better for this. Its a daily driver with the odd track day? Advice only if course.
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day Rhys, our VF pig roots all the time. A set of diff gears means the engine will rev higher at slower speeds and hopefully you can reduce the rooting. Joys of owning a lumpy cam!

I only ever use BP Ultimate.. I don't know how true it is but I heard BP fuel is actually refined to 98 octane where as most other fuels are not and have octane booster added to achieve the 98?
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, yes quality fuel is one of the easiest things you can do. We only use BP ultimate and on occasion Shell. Have had too many dramas with the other brands and outlets - even on their supposed 98 blend.......

Which sump would you recommend for reliable Power?? Wet or dry?? Another very informative video. Thank you
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. For regular driving and the odd track day, there is nothing wrong with the wet sump, providing you have heaps of oil and some of the mods I outlined. For total dedicated race car, consider a dry sump.

What fuel system is going in the VF? Are you going E85 at same time?
@ClunieGarage3 жыл бұрын
G'day Gary, we will share the specs and do a full review of the fuel system when it arrives from the US. We will be sticking to 98 RON at this stage.

I've heard the L77 comes out with a high-flow oil pump standard, and if you do a DOD Delete, and don't do a power upgrade, CAM etc you need to replace it with a std one or else it will blow out your valves and you will burn oil like in a LS1. Not sure if this is 100% though.
@angry99013 жыл бұрын
Melling make a high pressure, standard volume pump 10295 that is designed for AFM systems or a low volume, standard pressure pump 10294 or you can use the high volume, high pressure pump 10296. Need to speak to your engine builder about your application.

I have a VF Calais V, with the std 2.9 diff. Without doing a cam upgrade, just headers, hi flow cats & a 3" system, would a 3.45 ratio suffice for road driving only?
@angry99013 жыл бұрын
If you want a fairly aggressive cam you will need some gearing and a hi stall converter to make it all work.
@ashjackson73 жыл бұрын
@@angry9901 Not touching the cam. Was going to, but heard way too many nightmare stories. Also, trying to keep it subtle as it's a Calais not SS
@angry99013 жыл бұрын
Sorry, misread cam upgrade. For no upgrade any shorter gears will wake the Calais up.
@angry99013 жыл бұрын
The VE V8 auto does have a pretty short first gear, just over 4:1 but a bit of gearing will make a big difference. The standard tune doesn't hold first gear for very long anyway with the 2.9:1 diff ratio.

@@ClunieGarage I haven't personally but I bought the ute off of Gary Baxter, it was one of the 4 Holden precision driving teams Utes still in it's wrap from qld royal show in 2018. Needless to say she's got some issues that still need addressing, has a few lights and warnings going on. But once she's all sorted and I get a cam and tune I'll deffinately be taking it for some hot laps and maybe even a drift or 2 on the track. Needless to say I love the thing haha she's a beast
