I remember the video when you went over this car in detail (a year, maybe two ago?), when you were still trying to convince Art to pull finger get it done and I remember being so sad because it could be a real good looking cruiser. I didn't know much at all about the Malibu (being that I'm way down under in New Zealand and they weren't sold here at all) apart from the fact they were under the GM banner, but I loved its lines, loved the options that car in particular had and could see what it would look like finished. Then you started work on it and I've followed each stage, falling more and more in love with the beast as you went.....and bugger me if you didn't pick EXACTLY what I wanted it to look like! Earlier in the video, you were pondering about the addition of the red stripe and the door-ding strip. I paused the vid showing the side of the car and I thought "If ANY red stripe goes on this, it should be on the top of the top silver pencil line only. Any more and it would look overdone....and as for the ding-strip, either half way between the silver stripes and the next body line up or level with the top of the striping". And there it is - pretty much right where its going to do the most good and it doesn't look overdone at all. Any more red would and any more stripes or highlighting of bodylines would tip the scales, but she looks absolutely grouse - inside and out. The noise she makes from that exhaust is pure music and boy does she get up and boogie when asked! Yeah - a couple of little niggles / shakedown issues to sort, but all-in-all a hugely satisfying finished product that you can feel rightly proud of, mate. As for me, I wish I lived a lot closer, because I'd pay you the money and drive her home. I could not buy a Malibu here - if I could find one in that condition - for $19,300 (which is what $12k US equates to in our 3rd world currency). Sure, I'd have to swap out the headlights for ones that go to the left, pay for Compliance, import tax, registration and inspection, but what the hay? The biggest cost would be Compliance because they go over imported cars with a fine tooth comb looking for issues, expecting a 50 year old car to still present brand new inside, outside and especially underneath. Anything that looks like it might conceal an issue, hide rust, is non-standard, is cut and welded or is coated in surface rust, is rejected. You almost have to be able to eat off the surfaces to be able to pass. Believe me, I am very tempted all the same, but right now I have nowhere to store it until I move one (or more) of my others on...and you don't want to leave a car out in Auckland weather for any length of time unless you want to turn it into a project again. Between the salt air, the humidity and the rain, things don't last long - hence our rust laws. We'll see what cooks though and if I can swing it in the short term, I'll be in touch. All the best!

For some unexplained reason Lee, I honestly love the look and style of this particular car. To me, it has a similar style/appearance just like a 1976/77 Monte Carlo. What do you think? Out of all the other car builds, that I have watched from beginning to end, in my opinion, this build has definitely got to be one of the best! I mean, you took this rust bucket of a car, completely and totally apart (and I do mean apart), and then welded it back together again. The amount of engine work that you performed on this car and the interior and engine upgrades to increase the overall engine performance and horsepower, will definitely add to the overall value of this car. Wow, absolutely incredible and insane in a good way. Art, is probably thinking of ways that he can try and convince you to sell him this car back to him. He completely destroyed this car by driving it in and out of the ocean surf - total insanity!The amount of time and energy that you put into this car is mind blowing. WOW, so much focus and determination!

The 73 - 77 OLDS CUTLASS, were some of the most BEAUTIFUL and MOST UNDERATED American Cars built!!! Thank you sir for MAKING AMERICA'S ROADS BEAUTIFUL AGAIN!!! I'm 55 and the best I could do for "The Cause" with my $$$$ was a 2007 LINCOLN TC !!~!! I NEVER thought I'd love a FORD but after "BULLWINKLE" hit my Cadillac DTS the only BIG AMERICAN Sedan/Coupe that was DEPENDABLE enuff for me was the LINCOLN with my Work travels and I HATE SUV'S unless it's a REAL K5 or BRONCO!!! I am so glad you saved this car. It is stunning. I think the Colonade cars are starting to pick up on popularity. The only thing I may have done differently is around the wheel wells, where the stripes are. I would love to have seen what they would look like if you had carried over the rounded corners on the side stripes like you did on the hood and trunk lid. I am looking forward to the Scooby Doo Van. I'm kind of hoping the 78 Nova might get some love, too.

You made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. For all the work you did and the improvements you made, you sure didn’t have a lot invested. Of course that parts car was a life saver on this build. Without it you couldn’t have done it or made it as nice as you did. The silver stripes on the top and bottom definitely added a lot to it. Your call on adding a red pinstripe on the bottom of the silver on the lower body. I would just put it on there and make a judgment call. I wouldn’t add any more red stripes anywhere else on the sides of the car. It’s going to make it look too busy. The Cragars give it street cred and make it look like a hot rod. Looks sharp.
@clunkersandclassics3 ай бұрын

You are so correct. The way you do cars there is no way you could buy one done to that level already done. I would encourage anyone to follow your advice restoring cars on the common sense cheap. What would prove Mortski right would be on a very high end car. Then you could buy a pristine restored car cheaper than you could build it. There are rich people that will do that but that market is tight and small. However if the car is nice enough you can always hold out to get what you want for it. You did an outstanding job on this car. It was a disaster and it looks great now with your work, way to go. You could not buy that car looking as it does for what you built it as. It might take three or more weeks to sell it at 10k around here. It would sell within days around here for 7k. That is double your money which any business needs to do to stay in business. You know how to do things correctly and on the cheap. Should be an inspiration for any guy learning and getting started or trying to improve their abilities.

The Malibu looks really good 👍 as far as buying a vehicle already done as compared to building your own, it all depends on the vehicle and it's actual value. You don't understand the fact that that model A is All steel with appropriate hot rod parts from its day. Mortskes model A is worth considerably more then what he paid the way it sits now.
@clunkersandclassics3 ай бұрын
