I don't know a single thing about mechanics, engines, electrics or 90% of the things you do in these videos. Yet I find myself immersed and interested in the ways you go about solving your problems, seeing how you think and how much experience I'm sure is behind all you do. Keep up the great work! I thoroughly enjoy watching your ingenuity!

Cool project. I tend to do the one wire match up at a time testing. With my luck if I don’t then the magic smoke comes out. Here’s a fun one for you, I went to replace the bulb in my taillight and the whole socket came out. Either 40-50 bucket for the whole thing or 8 bucks for a socket I modified to fit. Went with the 8 bucks. The 8 buck socket is 100% better made than the oem. Go figure. And I still don’t know wtf no one puts silicone grease on bulbs. Makes the lead pads not wear out and they don’t corrode and are easy to get out. Best to ya, great vid!
@zedbear12 ай бұрын
I put a small amount of silicone dielectric compound on the contacts and on the inside of the connector. I know I can disassemble with ease years later.

Yeah....I thought about the newer style controls for my 93 FXDL....my housings were good, but the switches were crapping out after 30 plus years and broken soldered connections...so, I took them apart and installed a new switch kit with the 40 plus inch wires. ...just like new once more. Oh...hey, I admire your tenacity with plugs etc....I just soldered and shrink wrapped mine.

I thought about replacing with original type and weatherproofing the wiring but maybe I’m just so used to the controls on my ‘96 FatBoy I wanted the same feel 🤷🏻♂️

Good job young man. I have the wire harness torn apart from my new 98 road king and using the factory service manual. The electrical schematic color codes don't match. So go figure. I just try to do no harm. I'll find out when I put it back together. I'm sure it'll be fine. Keep after it. You're better off riding a bike you know inside out. Gives me peace of mind.

Good job on the wiring, it’s a nightmare in there. On the green/ orange wire conundrum. I can’t remember all the colors and such when I did mine BUT, there were some wires that were for parking lights. I eliminated all my unneeded wires, those being among them. But they had some strange wiring for the 4way flashers and for parking lights. All kind of nestled together. I wanted as few issues as possible so eliminated the 4ways and parking lights circuits. Sorry I can’t remember the color other than some orange. At least your horn doesn’t start the bike!
@tta8502 ай бұрын
🤣 I was thinking of your story the whole time doing the wiring, I’m like there’s no way it “should” happen but what if it does! Yeah I’m learning they definitely had all kinds of wiring nestled together for no apparent reason, maybe they knew we would be cleaning this up four decades later 🤷🏻♂️
@kingkrimson87712 ай бұрын
Yes, international models had what were called position lights (or parking lights as you called them). Rather than produce different wiring harnesses for domestic and international bikes Harley just left the extra unused wires in to baffle future owners 😁

BL stands for Blue, to avoid confusion with Black. Another interesting color choices are CH (Chocolate,dark brown), SB (Sky Blue, light blue), DG (Dark Green), and the bastardest of bastards OB (brOwn Black, not Orange Black as one would think)

I did the same job and my pins didn't connect well with the wires and left me stranded 100 miles away from my house on 2 occasions. I ended up soldering the pins to the wiring then crimped them together. I wouldn't risk it without soldering them together but it's your bike.Those crimping pliers are garbage too Good luck
@tta8502 ай бұрын
🤞 we shall see how well they hold up… and yeah the pliers leave something to be desired for sure!
@kennethwise71082 ай бұрын
@tta850 Dude, I was so pissed that after the 2nd time it left me stranded I ended up redoing all of them and soldered them ALL. My situation was a little different in that I rerouted my wiring inside of my bars (94 Fatboy) and converted the connectors from Molins to Deutch.

@Mariano.Bernacki2 ай бұрын
Extra wires in wiring harnesses are common, it is cheaper to have unused wires than having to produce and stock several types of harness, also less prone to manufacturing errors and clerical errors. Could have been for a heated grip option or some other option that your bike does not have.
