I love this. I definitely have observed how my 3yr and 5 yr old have learned alphabet, adding , reading and writing by US PLAYING. Not sitting down at a desk. My 5 year old read her first words yesterday. I spend time with them and along the way we learn. ❤ it’s beautiful to see them curious about things and wanting to learn more about it! when they ask questions, I make it a game and incorporate learning into it.

So happy to see a video from you again! I am a stay-at-home dad, and I appreciate all that you say about CM and teaching. I start when my kid is 6 in august. Also, have a 3-year-old so, this is helpful. Thanks.

I don’t think you referred to your kinderleiben video you posted 6 months ago. Would you still recommend all those things (you mentioned habit training there too, but also shared about poetry, modern language, using a sand tray, using Preschool Math at Home book, etc. Also, I’m curious if you’d consider TGCP’s Primer program “formal” lessons. I remember you did that with your oldest when she was around 4 or 5? I have been using the Preschool curriculum as well as Peaceful Preschool’s curriculum, but only doing what I think is non-formal and more play-based in both curriculums when it comes to math, read aloud, and intro to phonics (no copy work, limited morning binder pages, etc). I just love having the curriculum for the catechism, virtues, scripture memory work (I use the memory board during morning time) and the music and art study for tea time (again, verrrry intro level focusing just on exposure, not mastery. And no whizzing, just enjoyment of the arts). I was planning on trying the Primer next fall when my son turns 4 with this same mindset (skipping any writing practice other than sand tray, for example), but using the storyboards for a intro to narration and continuing our memory work through catechism, scripture, etc. I’ve shifted our learning to be more about habit training, but I also love the beautiful feast of ideas of CM and struggle with the line between formal lessons vs exposing them to bite-size pieces of the riches they’ll more formally learn after age 6

Thank you for posting informative videos, I’m in the process of choosing a curriculum for my 4 year old, I’ve researched various that are aligned with Charlotte Masons philosophy but often feel overwhelmed and also confused. I know in your early videos you mentioned that you used gentle classical preschool and now CMEC, do you still use gentle classical for your younger child or are you implementing the CMEC kinderlieben program? And which one aligns more with Charlotte Mason?

I'd love a video on what to do when your child doesn't want to learn the 'charlotte mason way' . He's only 5 and just started school this year, its all play based learning but i feel like even that in itself is a struggle some days. I'm fairly confident he won't be willing to learn the charlotte mason way when he won't even stare at a piece of art work for 2 minutes lol.

As far as them appreciating art at 5, I think it’s less about “stare at this for 2 min” and more “I’m going to look at this art and notice things and invite my child to notice things too.” Also, I’d encourage you to read CM vol 6 A Philosophy of Education… it’s helpful to know that the CM method isn’t just about lessons. It’s a lifestyle and approach to life.

yes, also, integrate YOUR love for art in the lesson - if possible, just go to museums, maybe show him some art any art that he might be interested in ( like the theme, the subject, etc) and talk to him about what he notices, what he thinks is going on in the picture...

love this, but would encourage to get away from the "only classical music" is good music. educate yourself on music, how it is done, what happens in a piece of music, and find out what you like - and then share that with your family and children. I don't listen to Taylor Swift, but she has been around for long enough that I think you will find real musical qualities in her music. so, if you are into something, just teach your kids why you love it...

Yea a variety of music especially from different cultures is enriching but personally a lot of post modern western music is well not good for the mind or soul.
