A bike project, especially your first one, can go through many phases. Follow along with Caleb as he gives you the run down on his 1975 CL360K1 scrambler giving you the backstory, mistakes he has made in his first bike build and things he learned going forward from his 3 year project to get it reliable. With these vintage Honda's sometimes they come back to life easier and sometimes they fight you along the way(our own mistakes in the builds do not help of course) but these bikes are just nuts and bolts, thats what we love about them. They can always be fixed. Let us know if you like this format and we will do a bike tour of Brenden and Jessi's personal bikes as well!

I think its nice to hear people advocate for keeping this stuff stock. I like custom bikes but it's a bummer looking for old cb's and seeing a lot of hacked up half assed builds.

The advice of keeping stock stuff is something everyone needs to take the heart. When working on my CB360 in the "cafe racer" phase, I binned a lot of perfectly usable parts. Years later when I changed the theme back to stock, I cursed at how much money I was spending on ebay for the same parts that I tossed!

Not only are you rebuying parts, they unfortunately are of lower quality. I had to replace the gas tank cap gasket on my ninja 250 (they don't sell the gasket separately, you have to buy a whole new assembly) and the new assembly was visibly much less sturdy to someone trying to break in.

Cool bike. I can't believe you cut out all of the bullet connectors and soldered all the connection. Glad you realized that was a bad move. I didn't realize you could blow a whole in a cylinder by being too lean. That's scary, I better double check my spark plugs and make sure they look healthy. Must have been extremely lean to do that kind of damage. Common-motor, you should have chased down the person who said they have a Sunbeam so you could do a video about that bike. I know it's not a Honda CB, but those are cool motorcycles. Honestly, I think they said Zundapp (not Sunbeam) which is also a cool vintage bike.
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes it was a bad move for sure! I just enjoy making it impossible to work on my bike apparently. Jetting too lean is definitely catastrophic I would always stay on the rich side of things as barely edging towards that line especially the first time re-jetting. They are cool! He stopped and talked to me about it but it was his childhood bike he didn't still have the zundapp.

Your bike is awesome, Caleb! I just picked up my first motorcycle, a '75 CL360, too! I'm slowly picking up parts to create more of a cafe racer style, and just picked up some Shinko244s - wondering where your rims are from, and what size they are? You did a really nice job, and thank you for the video!

I'm building a CL360 right now... My wireing was shot and I'm doing a minimal cafe harness from scratch. Mind doing a video on pros-cons of running a kick start only bike without a battery for those of us toying with the idea of doing a battery delete?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 4 жыл бұрын
Hey kenneth, you actually need to run some sort of battery in the 360's but theres definitely an option of running kickstart only bike with a significantly smaller battery. We do have a video comparing the pros and cons of the different types of batteries you could run though: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWiki6iImtiihc0

Old video but hopefully you see this, I recently picked up a 75 cb360t. Do you think the stock manifolds and mufflers from a cl360 would fit easily to a cb360? I know Id have to bolt it on or do some light welding but im looking to know space wise if its worth while. Thank you and I appreciate the work you guys do. This is my first bike, was not running when I picked it up but I got it going. Need to figure out the left cylinder, and replace a load of parts but Im optimistic about it
@akcorbel
@akcorbel 2 жыл бұрын
Awesome bike! Quick question from a noob to bike mechanics but are you able to switch a standard muffler that goes under the bike to having it run up and along the side? Like you have going on with this bike?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 2 жыл бұрын
Its going to depend on whether or not the high scrambler style pipes are made for your motorcycle. Either that or finding someone to make a custom set. Its all about the actual pipes though and not the mufflers though for that.

@Common-motor
@Common-motor 4 жыл бұрын
I tried making a seat! Haha didn’t turn out great. This one is a seat made by texavina. They make replacements that mount in like the factory ones. Searched hard to find them because I wanted one that mounted on the factory hinges too.
@ticosandoval
@ticosandoval 4 жыл бұрын
@@Common-motor Texavina is great! They build nice replacements, and mount up solid to the stock hardware. Their seat pans are a little "soft" with regard to the metal in my opinion, but overall, a great option when the stock seatpan is unusable, or you want to have a custom cover. I just had one made for my CB175.

I've got the same mufflers on my cl350 and would like to mellow out the sound a bit. How do you put the wire pads on there? Just shove em in?
@Common-motor
@Common-motor 4 жыл бұрын
Just put 1 in each through the front. Since these mufflers have a baffle in there it holds the wire pad in. Just make sure you use a Stainless Steel Kitchen scrubbing pad. It has thicker wire that will stay inside your mufflers and the stainless steel will not rust.

Great bike Caleb! Is the seat a little thinner than stock? I have a CL350 k5. Looking at that seat but hoping it’s a bit leaner than the stock seat. Also, I can’t make up my mind. Shinko tires like those (I would need a 2.75 up front because I’m on a 19) or the heidenau scramblers? Thanks for your time!
@Common-motor
@Common-motor Жыл бұрын
I have an aftermarket texavina seat on this CL360 versus a stock that does have a slightly thinner profile. Shinkos can be good but I gotta say after a few months the 244's rode absolutely awful when I had them on mostly because of the offroad tread pattern. Parts of the knobs broke off and left them slanted, causing it to ride incredibly bumpy. I much prefer the golden boy shinkos for basic off road use. The heidenaus are fantastic if you are mostly riding on road.

I bought the motorcycle off craigslist for $1700(too much from what I know now). As for the budget haha I'm not sure, I spent too much going through several iterations to what it is now and redid a-lot of the bad "custom" products I had bought when I first got it. I thinking nowadays I could probably build the same motorcycle for no more than 3,500 if I found a good starting motorcycle.
