CMC Bugatti Type 57 "Atlantic"

Car Room Report: CLIPS! Sometimes words and photos aren't enough. Models like CMC's incredible Bugatti Atlantic are why we love doing video so much. Once again, this maker of fine model cars takes the "sport" of collecting into a new area, with yet another multimedia masterpiece based on an historically important - and aesthetically beautiful - automobile. One of the most underrated and oldest cmc models alongside slr mclaren and swb. These were better than today's ones. These DID worth the money. Good choice!!!

@jamiekenta That'd be interesting. The company is great at miniaturization (especially small gizmos). Their large scale offerings haven't really moved in this market - but we think that's more to do with the subject matter than anything else. As far as a full sized car - WOW, would that be expensive! Beware if you're thinking of shelling out the $300+ for these CMC models. I personally received and returned four of these Bugatti models for all kinds of defects. The first model that I got had a fogged out headlight from where the Chinese assemblers spilled crazy glue on the reflector. The second model I got was missing the speedometer and odometer decals. The third example had bent wire spokes on all four wheels and even the spare tire. Finally, the fourth model that I got was assembled all wrong. The model's left front fender was assembled lower than the right making it look like it was crooked and the side window glass was missing. Save yourself the hassle and don't even bother with this overpriced garbage.

Sorry to hear that you had such bad luck... when did this happen? Recently? Were you dealing with the factory store or a private party? And was it this particular car? I only ask because I have samples from the factory and from private purchases (and I've seen a few in collections of friends) and those had none of those issues. Just curious. Thanks for watching!

Joe Kelly, Jr. Well, the four Bugatti's that I returned are just the latest defective models that I got from CMC. First I had to return three CMC Ferrari Berlinetta's. The first one was because the hood was misaligned so you had a large gap on the left and front but not on the right side or rear of the hood. The second one also had a fogged out head light like the Bugatti. Finally, the third one was the worst of the bunch. All of the steel pins in the undercarriage that connected the rear leaf springs and the pins holding the front suspension arms were all rusted. This all happened to me within the past three months. The only decent model that I got from CMC was the new Bugatti Corsica which was ok except for some missing paint on the edge of the trunk lid which is barely noticeable. The Berlinettas I received were from Amazon.com and the Bugatti's that I returned were from Mint Models.com. I ended up buying the Autoart Bugatti Atlantic from Amazon and it came in flawless.

Angie Slowik Wow - that's a bad string of luck. Sorry to hear about that. I'm glad the Corsica seems to have been an okay deal; did you get the one with the "alligator" seats?

Joe Kelly, Jr. I wasn't too crazy about the alligator seats so I got the standard seats. I'm not sure that, "bad luck" can adequately justify the string of defective CMC models that I've received, especially with all of the hype and price-tag to match. The other odd thing that I noticed about all of the CMC models that I have received is the extremely thin coat of paint they use. Even on the Corsica which I have, the paint is so thin that the machined polishing scratches on the sheet-metal are visible through the paint. It's great that CMC has so many details and parts in their models, but from my point of view, CMC can't reliably reproduce these details in their models. From my personal experience, I can guarantee that I'll find a defect in any CMC model within 30 seconds of opening it's Styrofoam enclosure.
