Goodness gracious... I remember having this recorded from TV on VHS 30+ years ago and used to watch this interview over and over because even though I wasn't a huge Sandra fan, I thoroughly enjoyed her visit to his show and loved her energy and activist heart. Man, I feel old!

"Without You I'm Nothing" has really left its mark on (at the very least) the drag community. So many quotable moments and each delivered with Sandra's gorgeous sneer. Some may say she was "ahead of her time," but that really just means the rest of the world was left in the dust whether her jokes and jabs went over their heads or not.

At 9:00 Sandra clearly was Sharon Stone's inspiration for Basic Instinct's infamous interrogation scene which was released two years later. She should've gotten credit for that.

She was 20 years too early. There was very little diversity in Hollywood back then in terms of how leading ladies were supposed to look and the opinions they were allowed to share. Sandy in her prime like she is here would be a superstar today. She would be getting cast in more roles and would have built up a huge social media following. She was/is brilliant.

"Cheers Queers" God, things were so much more loose back then. Before all the safe, p.r. approved bullshit that they show on nighttime tv now. Could you see this interview happening on Jimmy Fallon?
@psps20344 жыл бұрын
does that mean it was better? why was it ever to ok to call someone a queer ?
@marka.51354 жыл бұрын
No on Fallon, as he has no idea how to even interview a guest.

Nothing wrong with using or referring to someone as "queer."
@psps20344 жыл бұрын
@@marka.5135 "queer boy" is a derogatory term in the UK. Used in this context in a chat show, it green lights other people to use the term as an insult.
@marka.51354 жыл бұрын
@@psps2034 Correction, she used the word queer to address the demographic she KNEW was in the audience that night, as well as those watching on the air. She's long had a large gay, lesbian and bi audience for years (and yes, this was way before the whole LGBTQ+++ terms were the standard). An as being a [then] queer woman herself in 1990 (she hasn't yet officially come out, and to date she didn't feel the need to), it was a term that didn't have a derogatory implication in it, especially coming out of someone who is and directly addressing those it refers to. When she says, "cheers, queers," she's doing so in celebration with what she was just talking about that preceded it, that is how she's addressed homophobia along with other "phobias" and "-isms" from her movie.

also she mentions just turning 35, which would have been 1990 for her since she was born in 1955.
@QuincyDisneyVegan6 жыл бұрын
That would make sense though because of the Basic Instinct dress moment at 9:00, but she's clearly Sharon Stone's inspiration for the famous film which came out in 1992 -- Sandra doesn't mention Sharon nor Basic Instinct, and so this segment was definitely recorded before the movie was released.
