CMP Curtiss P-40E Warhawk Maiden

This is the 73" span (1/6 scale) P-40E Warhawk, which was manufactured around 15 years ago. Weight for these two maiden flights was 15 lbs. 11 oz. My procedure is to maiden flight test my models before proceeding with paint, graphics, details, etc. That way if structural changes are required, or damage occurs, things are much easier to fix. This total revamp of a long out of production CMPro P-40E "ARF" (intended for gas power) was acquired unstarted, and required a number of changes to approach reasonable scale fidelity (with many more to come). The changes and assembly so far have taken more than four months, which several weeks left to finally complete. Final completion is underway -- it will be repainted as one of the "Aleutian Tigers" as it appeared in 1943.

Thanks -- the plan is to paint as one of the "Aleutian Tigers" -- a squadron commanded by John Chennault, son of Claire. No shark mouth, but a rather huge yellow and black tiger head on the cowl. Stay tuned, videos eventually, or visit the RC Groups build log, URL in the description.

I didn't calculate it, although I could have when I was doing the CG calculation. It's 73" span and weighed 15 lbs 11 oz for these two test flights. I expect it to gain another 1.5 lbs at least during the completion phase.

@@vintagecornet You sir are flying a lead sled. More power to you but keep that air speed up or you will re-kit the air frame.

ha, that's what you think! You should watch the videos of my Hughes 1B Racer, or the ESM Hawker Typhoon -- now THOSE are lead sleds! The Typhoon is the same size as the Warhawk, but 19.5 lbs. The Hughes is only 61" span, but about the same weight as the Warhawk!@@flycatchful
