Great video, done in a new, time-compressed style! I liked it a lot and the build is coming along so well!!

Thanks Charles! Yeah there were just a lot of super long glue up parts in this one that I didn‘t really want to cut too much out of, so I sped them up to at least show the process. This one definitely had a lot more high-speed stuff than my other videos in the series. Thanks foe watching!

Not telling you how to do it but as a longtime carpenter I glue both sides of every joint to ensure maximum glue contact.
@fractuss2 жыл бұрын
Edit: On second thought instrument making is only kinda like carpentry. I can see a number of places where gluing both sides would be very messy.
@CMRWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I’m still trying to figure out the exact amount. The guy I learned from only puts glue on one side and has been building guitars over 20 years. Before I got into guitar building and was building furniture and decor and such items, I added glue to both sides of a glue up. I learned woodworking back in 2012 from watching KZbin videos and the main guy I watched was a guy called The Wood Whisperer and he always spread glue on both sides, so I did too.

Been binging ur guitar making videos the whole night, good work mate. Planning on doing a guitar build this winter as well, gonna be a pain in the butt after watching the binding fail on you so many times
@CMRWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for checking them out. I honestly think I was just going too fast with the bending. I think I was just having issues staying patient, haha, after thinking it through more. Good luck with your upcoming build. Hope it goes well!
@bobsegar12423 жыл бұрын
gonna go ahead and give you a great tip, when you go to do the intonation, measure your scale length and set the highest e sattle all the way forward exactly on your scale length. (on an acoustic its a bit trickier) but that's the easiest way to set your intonation.
@edkenney7443 Жыл бұрын
Do you have the exact measurements you used to build the neck from scratch?
@CMRWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I don’t know them exactly off the top of my head. I have a set of plans that contain all that info which I reference. The plans are actually just a few bucks. The ones I have are for an OM guitar and they have all the dimensions for everything on the guitar.
@edkenney7443 Жыл бұрын
@CMRWoodworks Hey...thanks man...I appreciate you taking the time to get back with me! May I ask where you got the plans that gave you all the measurements?
@geebee3d3 жыл бұрын
Try using a good block plane to square up your peg head overlay. The side of the plane registers off the top of the neck which ensures that the resulting cut will be perfectly square to the fretboard. Try it and see how you get on.
@CMRWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
I actually did square it up off-camera with a little block plane. Worked great! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great video...I just decided to build a new neck to replace the broken one on my first guitar. It seems I need to get lots more clamps and some table saws..but I am also wondering what type of wood you used
@CMRWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I used indian rosewood for the sides and back, sitka spruce for the top, mahogany for the neck, and ebony for the headplate, fingerboard, and bridge.

Very cool! What was the white piece that you sandwiched between the headstock and ebony plate?

It was a maple veneer. I think it‘s sold specifically as a “headplate veneer” if I’m not mistaken. Thanks for watching!

Hi does anyone know what measurements he used when he cut that plank into thirds for the heel
@CMRWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I think the pieces were somewhere around three inches long. It can vary a little based on how long the neck blank is. The neck blank for each of my guitars started around 35 inches. When I determine where the tenon will end, I cut off the excess and then just cut that extra piece into thirds. It seems to me that even as short as two inch pieces would work for the type of heel that I make. Depends on the heel design.

I am the proud owner of a Kinkade jumbo 12 string cutaway acoustic guitar. It was completed 6 months after the order was made in 1984 to my complete and utter satisfaction. I watched him build it and at that time my dream job was luthier and it still is today. I have so much respect for this superb craft and it’s craftspeople! 🙏
