Learned a lot in that interview, great job, super questions. Have to say the Captain didn't look old enough to have 27 years in. Sadly in 2000 we lost a V-22 in front of my Arizona hangar. A memorial was built at the airport dedicated to the 19 brave Marines.

I grew up in Niceville Florida right in the middle of Eglin air force base. The largest air force base in the country and one thing that people that have never been around a low flying osprey might not realize is how quiet it is when it's flying like an aircraft compared to say a Blackhawk or other rotorcraft. You almost can't hear it until it's on top of you.

I'm former ATO on the Kitty Hawk, and I loaded/unloaded C-2s (Det 5!) every day for months. This podcast was interesting, scratched my ATO itch. Because these are smaller, they are probably quicker to turn around on deck. Normal PAX load on a C-2 was 22, 6 rows of seats. Baggage went up front, in the side door. C-2s couldnt fly pax at night, but we did do night log hits for pure cargo every now and then. I wonder if the Capt talked to the minehunter squadrons that fly the MH-53E, those guys fly log hits out to carriers sometimes, particularly in the Persian Gulf.

Enjoyed that, Jello. Always great to learn about a "new" airframe and mission. Flesh was great at explaining the detail around the aircraft and mission. Definitely a fantastic guest. I'm surprised that there was no talk of an ASW mission. With "modularity" being the buzz these days, the airframe seems ripe for a plug and play modular mission set wheeled directly in that cavernous hold. Time on station, speed, loiter, expanded stores etc with the ability to dip just like a Romeo, it seems like the Osprey would be a great ASW asset. Did you happen to talk to Flesh about this off air by any chance?

There was a small group of Army Aviators in the late 80s who wanted in on the Osprey. They were out voted. Years later seeing them in Anbar Province everyone saw the benefits to high altitude/high speed/long range aircraft with VTOL capability. Flying DUSTOFF in Iraq/Syria in 2016/17 I regularly saw the AFSOC Ospreys doubling our speed, tripling our range and able to fly single ship unlike us. It totally made sense for the Army to replace the Blackhawk with the new Bell Valor. Thanks again for your channel. "Tadpole".
