Navy CMV-22B Osprey Operations Aboard an Aircraft Carrier.

The “Titans” of Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) made Naval Aviation history recently when they conducted the first-ever Navy CMV-22B Osprey landings, take-offs, and refueling from an aircraft carrier, Nov. 20, 2020. So will this replace the C-2 Greyhound? Also why did the Navy go for this when they could have just waited a bit longer for the newer one coming out that's going to replace this, I forgot what it was called

Not a bit. FLRAA is supposed to be operational in 2030 at the earliest. So, the navy wouldn’t get that before 2035.

Albino Gorilla that’s not what I’m hearing from friends stationed on Carriers. Apparently all flight ops have to stop when a v22 lands on the carrier. The air boss doesn’t want them on the carrier any longer than is necessary

Albino Gorilla interesting. Thank you for the perspective. Do the 22’s stay for very long or just long enough to offload? I feel like the Navy hasn’t really decided what other things they want the 22 to do yet after the cod mission is taken over

Yep, the C-2. A fixed wing is limited to landing on the carrier. A CMV can land on almost any ship with enough room. There are trade offs to losing the C-2 but the benefits of the CMV are far greater. There are MANY reasons but yes this is replacing the C2.

Shorter range, less cargo carrying capacity, slower, and more expensive than the Greyhound or even a new or updatedC2a. . Osprey is cool , but not sure why switch, other than Boeing has better lobbyists than Northrop.
