This is awesome! I’m training a mini to drive a cart and he’s never worn a bridle before. I’ve been following your guidelines and so far so good. He’s getting it and it’s all been done quiet and calm.

Super awesome training video Amry. I think a lot of people are not to sure how to transition "the correct way" to a bit. Great explanation too. Have to give you a 👍on jumping with Marine at your Uncle Alan's farm, but even more so, teaching Marine how to rope 😃 great stuff!! Love and Blessings always ❤ 🙌 Jennifer

I have a mini just coming up on two years old and I'm getting ready to introduce him to the bit. I wasn't keen on most of the methods I'd looked into because I prefer a much more gradual approach - I like having the time to stop and troubleshoot things as we go vs. headache of trying to retrain them _after_ they've cemented something in their brains. Especially with just how quick my little guy picks new things up. 😬 Now I just have to actually *find* the right size bit for him... 😂

Hi again AMRY All in the prep for sure. You are soo good taking things one step at a time and being patient with each step before you move on. You also are so keen as to the what the horse is thinking and allow him to do what is acceptable and what isn't. Importantly you give them time to digest it all. Surely would have taken you on once upon a time for all my bunch! Hearing the words of that one song you chose I'm wondering if that foreshadows a big surprise lol!! Rest of our lives it's a done deal!?! One of your best teaching vids to date! Thx as always for sharing all your hard work... Catcha next time.

Hi Amry, just wondering about the loose ring, aren't you worried about it pinching the side of the mouth? I've never used one, but ive just brought one cause the bit I wanted didn't come in a fixed bit, but I'm worried, I have brought the leather circles that you can put between the bit and mouth. My boy is a rescue race horse he's a standardbred, but with a normal Trott etc, I've actually left him for about 1-2 years, to let him rest, put weight on etc, trying to get him use to a slower paced life, but I'm starting him from the beginning with ground work first, he raced for 9 years, and won a few races. He's about 16.1, but he's been pushy, chews on bits, can't be tired in a cross tie etc cause he gets fizzy, I think it comes from racing. Thats why I decided to give him the time to regroup in his head and body, he's pretty onto it though, got brains. Watching you, I like the softness you have with your horses. Loved watching you on Alan's channel doing the English jumping, awesome seat you have with jumping well done 😊

Amry, I thought that strap was a throatlatch. Isn't the chinstrap behind his chin, sometimes leather or chain. New to your channel, enjoy watching, thanks for the fun!

Throatlatch is the one by the throat Chin strap or bit hobble at the bit. I'm sure that was just a bobble in terms.

Why do you wave your hand on a trot this is where I got confused 23:12
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
I wave my hands and move around a lot overall because I want desensitization and gentle horses. If I still still up there and never move then one day decide to wave hi to the neighbors I might scare the crap out of him.

I guess I've been doing it backwards because I always start with a side pull and then introduce the bit after or does it really matter? I'm going to try doing it the way you're doing it and see how that goes I start with very young horses so and minis so we shall see how that works out here on my farm and I will let you know
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
I don't think that is wrong at all! Nothing wrong with starting with a side pull - I start with the side pull first once I am on their back. Are you saying you start with a side pull on the ground instead of a halter? That's not a bad idea! I just usually use a halter because it's what I have on for ground work. ☺️

Do you also train hil to stop by pulling back on both reins?
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
I will train to stop by pulling both reins back - but I give them time to understand one rein first. It might be complicated to type out but basically horses can brace agains two handed contact but they have no choice to eventually give to one rein. And one rein stops disengage their hind end (the hind end is the gas pedal). This might make a fun video topic with better explanation! ☺️

Is Sundance left-handed or right-handed. I found some horses like to turn and pull one way or the other. Just wondering????
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
I think Sundance would be right handed. He flexes better to the right and always wants to pick up the right lead.

This looks like it works, but it’s so much crap to actually get results? I’m in Australia and I understand some if not most of what you are doing? But we do it in so so so many less steps? I’m a complete natural gentle horse trainer, I don’t know what you have seen about us? I’ve seen a lot of things with American riders and trainers, I think you are awesome, I just think you are confusing them? Too much bull shite not enough straight orders? It works? But it’s 5 things too much, there’s a simpler way x
@cnahorses
@cnahorses Жыл бұрын
I guess to each their own - I find that all the steps help simplify it for the horses so that they have clear direction of what I am asking. BUT I know others that do it differently and get the same results. I'd be curious to see how you do it. Thank you for the no hate! ☺️
