Mounting a Colt for the First Time

My tips for mounting and riding a colt for the first time. Know what's there before you get on. Preparation is everything and mounting is no exception. I go through safety tips. It's so important to know how to read your horse to know if you have the green light to get on. Remmy took longer to get comfortable with mounting than some of my other colts. I did not feel like he was fully accepting of mounting on this particular day. It's for this reason that I decided not to do his first ride in this video. It might seem like I didn't get a lot done, but it made all the difference in the world to Remmy. Because I took the time he needed, he's was comfortable and confident when I did his first ride later that week. You will never been sorry if you leave the time line up to the horse. You are setting him up for a lifetime of success or failure by how you approach these steps leading up to the first ride.
I filmed this over a year ago to show the process I take my colts through. It's not all inclusive, but highlights a few of the main aspects of colt starting just to give you a taste.
