You have to peruse the racial preferences in employment or house rental sections or in Advertisements in Multiracial countries like Malaysia and Singapore. Many sectors resolutely determine a monorace and monoculture environment and economic ecology. “ A long time ago, I read a book called Chinese Women in Southeast Asia , which associated the Chinese with a superiority complex. As a member of the Chinese community, I have had many encounters with racist remarks peppering the conversations of Chinese people regardless of the language or dialect used. I have heard Chinese Malaysians using a very offensive term to refer to another race. And to my surprise, I found a Singaporean Chinese using the same term, but spoken in her own dialect. There is no shortage of racists and derogatory tags for other races in the Chinese language.” Everyone is a perpetrator and victim of racism. No one is exempt.

Lee Kuan Yew graduated top of his cohort in the law faculty at Cambridge, I think with something called a double-star honours, the highest achievable distinguishment. He outperformed several future deans of the law faculty at Cambridge. He subsequently returned to Singapore and pretty much lead an absolute economic and social miracle of a transformation. If I may I would like to implore Prof Chen-Wishart to consider moving to Singapore. Anyone who has the skills or talent or knowledge, or all of the above, will be appreciated, regardless of race, language, religion etc.

It is only undergrad and is no indication of higher level intelligence. Route learning is enough for undergrad, but original thinking is required for a PhD and beyond that academia sorts out the sheep from the goats via blind reviewed books and journal articles. The big names like Joseph Raz changed their field, not merely managed a good undergrad GPA from some basic memorising and minor critique. This lady is a fine lady, but her publication record is not impressive.

I am white, and experienced racism as a kid when they merged white and black kid's in the same school's. I had teacher's treat me bad, and was targeted by kid's wanting to fight with me, and seven of them. I was hit, and kicked to the ground, and was being kicked in the head. I blacked out, beat them all up, and only remember being angry, and just started swinging, next memory i was in the principles office with my mom. I did not get suspended, and the principle couldn't figure out how i took down seven bigger kid's, the way i did. I guess it would be from dissassociating all the times i was abused. I never grew up racist, and was taught by my grandparents that we are all the same to GOD. I also had next door neighbor's who were black that my siblings and i played with. I look at the character of the person, and that is the way people should live. I am 51, and the govenot are creating racism, religious racism, and would love for us all to fight each other. Love your neighbor as yourself, and know that we are all the same, trying to make a living, and get home to GOD.

Shame that while she was Dean she did nothing about the Law Quarterly Review which was reported in Times Higher Ed for not having a diverse editorial board, and using non-blind review resulting in a gross overrepresentation of Oxford academics in it. That is substantive unconscious discrimination that was reported to her and she simply said it was not for her to use her influence to get it to adopt a diverse and representative editorial board even though that journal has been in the control of the Oxford Law Faculty since 1885. Her publication record is not impressive so her fame might not be as high as she assumes simply from having an Oxford post. There are far more famous poeple in her subject in lesser known universities. Since the election of Trump Sinophobia has been rampant in the West and the Sinophobia she endured is gross and unacceptable.

I agree on the unconscious racism. If you aren't wearing a business suit, customer service at an office type setting is very curt, whereas, if you are a white guy wearing the same type of casual sweater/jeans with blue eyes and blonde body hair, the service is very courteous and nice. The only way to overcome unconscious racism is to dress extremely well, which to be honest is tiring if you are doing it 100% of the time you are out.

It's odd, every time I see an asian, a black, a European, I see a person who looks different from me. It's not unconscious, I am fully aware they are different. They get the same recognition I give anyone I don't know. Eye contact and a polite nod and on my way.

She gained my respect even more. If I have a friend (PoC) went to Oxford, I am expecting them to talk about the same thing too. Either positive or negative insights of such array of topics. Oftentimes, people from Malaysia (for instance and I referring as SEA) who 'reached' or exposed to outer worlds just stay timid in their 'own little world' rather than step up and show a little bit purpose and deeds on how to help ppl from their own problematic country. They just don't care as they are in the comfort area. My point now might came a bit derailing than what this video is about, however you get the point I hope. It's a big ball sacrifice and took big courage to address some unpleasant matters, whether it is big issue, impacting issue, politic issue, disaster, poverty issue, mistreated of power or even oppression en masse by corrupt admins etc rather than sweeping under a big smelly rug. If you want me to respect you - here is the thing - it is the awareness you bring, that's what sums up 'what' Academia is. It's not like going there to spend about 5-6 years and turned useless ie coward. Stay on your ground of your fate, help people because you are the choosen one and gets the schoolarship in the first place. Just don't be a useless personel

No offense to the dean, but she is making quite a leap to accuse the porters and idiot tourist of being rascist . It sounds more like she has an ego problem and she wa shocked that those people didn’t “know who she was” and how dare they treat her like a “commoner” because she is the Dean!
