Not many people know this - as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), Faith Hwang has a Masters degree and the training to diagnose conditions, order therapies and extra investigations, and perform more complex procedures like a bedside heart ultrasound. They have, in essence, the accreditation to perform as medical officers.
She is the first APN at the medical ICU of Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and part of her job involves coming up with patient care plans that she discusses with doctors.

I'm an APN in the United States, and it warms my heart to see this spotlight on our profession, especially in another country. Let me help summarize and expand it a little further. So, an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a highly trained and specialized nurse who provides comprehensive care in various healthcare settings. APNs can include nurse practitioners (NPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), and nurse midwives (CNMs). APNs perform advanced assessments, diagnose and treat medical conditions, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans. APNs often work independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. They also play a significant role in patient education, health promotion, and disease prevention. Additionally, APNs may contribute to research, policy development, and healthcare leadership....all well demonstrated by Faith, she is a role model!

Her rank is above that of a Registered Nurse, which is itself very high ranking. In the US, due to having areas where doctors are not readily available due to it being a rural area or otherwise, they are permitted to serve as doctors for certain States. 24 out of the 50 States. But of course, they are still a rank below a full doctor, even though they can prescibe medications and see patients and open their own clinics

Pharmacist, radiologists, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, medical lab techs, environmental services workers, CNAs, etc. Healthcare is not one sided.

APNs are highly respectable. They also, are as knowledgeable as the physicians themselves after upgrading their skillsets. Hi Faith, i am in allied health from the pathology lab discipline and i am just feeling jaded 10 years into the job now. Thanks for making me not forgetting my original intention of the path i've chosen a decade ago through this clip of yours. I am reinspired again. Thank you for all that burning passion in your 14 years, keep going 💪🏻

Thank you for serving in the healthcare care industry. Your journey in allied health is nothing short of inspiring too. ❤It’s natural to feel worn at times, especially after a decade of dedication. Remember, the path you’ve chosen is impactful and your expertise in the pathology lab contributes significantly to healthcare.Everyone in the healthcare industry is an important asset to a patient's journey to recovery! 👍 Every test you run, every analysis you perform, is a thread in the larger tapestry of patient care which is so impt for the care plan of our patient's best treatment. It's okay to feel down at times but seek new sparks for your passion-perhaps a workshop, a conference, or a new project could offer a fresh perspective. Your experience is valuable, and your renewed passion will fuel you to be inspired as well once again. So keep the flame alive- we as healthcare workers will support onanother & you have a whole community rooting for you!💪💪💪

I am so so glad that Faith did not listen to her parents to pursue a more "secure and comfortable job", because then she would only end up as a "kuai kiah", a zombie employee going through the motions just for the monthly pay check and annual bonuses. Now she is doing something that she is absolutely passionate about and is now REALLY contributing to society and bringing joy and comfort to her patients and blazing the way for future health care professionals...a true HERO. 😊

i get the feeling the parents are controlling and strict that only wanted her to have a regular schedule so they know her whereabouts. Nursing is very in demand and unpredictable in nature so she would need to be out the door at a notice. i experience the same thing with my own parents when i wanted to go to college to pursue nursing- ended up dropping out. My parents just wanted to control me, abuse me, kept parroting office jobs were better when in fact office jobs out here are hot garbage. It's rare to find an office job that pays a living wage if you aren't high up.

@@zensoundsarah9209 Hi Sarah, I understand where you are coming from. Many parents want their kids to have a "secure", "comfortable", "admin" jobs in air conditioned comfort. However, the real contribution are those with REAL skills - the NCOs (to borrow a military term) of the real world - the people who do the "doing" and with real world experience. I'm sorry you did not finish your nursing studies. It is not easy going against the grain and "conventional" wisdom, it can be a lonely path too. But I wish you the best for your future.

I love the way she talks to her patienf who is on a tube and ventilated. The interaction was so touching. She asked questions to the patient who has no voice to talk back, but she made it clear that her patient understood her question. Amazingly the patient responded in a non-verbal way that she was able to understand, abd she further explained to her patient, ans I can see patient who was voiceless was reassured of her explanation and care provided. The eye contact and touch were superb tho. I am a nurse ibmn a day surgery suite. Most of our patients are well and in good shape. We do simple surgeries and make sure patients will be able to go home before the day ends. Most of our interactions with patients last for 4-6 hlurs including their surgery time. But, definitely, the care and assurance given to our patients are pretty much the same. Vut I could say, her medical knowledge and her passion towards her profession are somethings that give younger nurses a whole lot of inspiration.

I have had the privilege of meeting Nurse Faith, Dr Lew and all the nurses at Ward 6B when my dad was there for 3 months. They are selfless, caring and gave my family and I so much assurance and comfort in spite of the circumstances. Watching this video brought tears to my eyes. Nurse Faith deserves all the recognition and accolades for not only her knowledge but most definitely for her dedication, patience and heart for the patients. Nursing is a heart job. ❤ Take care, everyone at Ward 6B!

If she is willing, please admit her into Duke-NUS Medical School to be a doctor on scholarship and let her skip relevant modules. She is more conscientious and more deserving than many of the medical GPs and specialists I have seen.
