Such hardworking, creative, resourceful, honorable people. I’ve been blessed in my lifetime to have visited this colorful country 4 times and developed an attachment to her. I always wish the spoiled, entitled children of my country were forced to learn about the real world and the true struggles that people face with such dignity. I carry these people in my heart and am sending them love and respect from Idaho, USA 😍😍😍😍

There's something in the shots. This episode looks so much better, even more so than the previous ones. The team has caught the vibe very well! One thing to note is that the Kochuri seller had the whole root of hing! Previously, afghans used to sell it in Kolkata back in the colonial days, but now it comes in dust, store-bought form! I'm guessing this root paste is gonna taste much better.
@ocs748
@ocs748 Жыл бұрын
Solid hing is available through out the country, but people prefer the powdered form for ease of use. Handling solid hing with fingers leaves a lingering aroma which does not go even when washed with soap.

The underlying spiritual journey of the first cook is sublime. The way he sat and explained, simple and powerful. He is a master in his own rights. That is the greatness of Bharath, spirituality is not limited to a certain way of life. Here the essence of spirituality flows in all walks of life. Many humble craftsmen, laborers, shepherds, musicians, poets, butchers, kings, housewives, beggers, etc, have become saints of great reverence. Do whatever your karma is with utmost dedication and sincerely, with God in your heart. Bengal is the land of Swami Ramakrishna paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda.

A lot of foreign documentaries focus on the poverty and corruption and what not. While those are issues that do need to be highlighted, unfortunately it's the stories of the ordinary people that go unheard. If we judge them by 1st world standards they are impoverished but it doesn't take away the fact that they are just as hardworking, creative and resourceful in making it through life despite their circumstances.

Anybody who lived in Kolkata for at least a month would know that Kolkata may not be a bright flourishing modern city like Bangalore but a city that grows on your heart. For us natives, Kolkata is a emotion and we wouldn't even have wanted to change it a inch if the world was not in a rat race to show off financial wealth.

A very beautiful story telling. It shows how every person you come across have their own unique story to share. That every person is special working hard to carry on with their lives. The way this person spoke showed his passion in his work. Humble guy indeed. Perfect candidate for this documentary. Well done CNA.

Lovely video! Reminded me of home, but personally, I didn't appreciate the word 'slum food.' I saw the Ganges-the holy river, the people, the food, and the hard-working common men striving to make a difference. Now sure how 'this' is related to 'slum.'

Kolkata's rusty vibe is so pleasing, I am not against development but I never want Kolkata to become next Mumbai or Bangalore..

Rusty vibe and development are different,, Development and Tradition can go hand in hand,, just like cities in Japan,, Kolkata and other Indian cities have their own beauty and they they need to be developed accordingly

This area "kumortuli" may look like a slum but actually it's not . This area harbours artists that are best in all over world , they make idols ,pottery, and various handicrafts that are unmatched and can put famous trained artists to shame.
