Fun Fact: In the Philippines, it's way easier to dump your money into online casinos than to invest it smartly. The government blocks you from opening foreign stock or crypto brokerage accounts, and financial institutions have a lot of annoying KYC requirements that you need to go through. They claim it's to protect you from risky investments, but you don't see that hassle when you're gambling online. Instead, you see ads and billboards for these gambling sites everywhere, even with local celebrities promoting them. It's totally effed up.

Indonesian here. It's poverty. Poverty is the reason online gambling has taken a hold over Indonesia. Cheap labour, low & stagnant wages, inflation, rising cost of living have made so many of us struggling financially. In 2023 it has been reported around 10 million of middle class people have slipped to lower class, an indication that the existing low class people are faced with even bigger challenges. Online gambling is easy and convenient, offering a dream of instantaneous wealth and prosperity. Backed by our highly corrupt government (we were and still are the most corrupted country in the world) and its idiotic, shameless, greedy, and short-sighted officials, I'm afraid online gambling and its repercussions will be around for a long time here.

In the Philippines at least, there's also a cultural dimension to the issue. Gambling is very much part of the culture. Cockfighting, for example, is already a practice even before the Spaniards colonized the islands. They are putting the blame on Duterte's POGO which clients are usually non Filipinos but not on the online games on Maya and GCash which Filipinos have access and are addicted too (like duh, the current president is a substance addict)! If Bangag Marcos is really serious about this gambling thing, he should ban all this including the ones that Filipinos have access to on this e-money sites.

Who started it anyway? It was the Dutertes. Check the end of this video, they say if Sara will win the election on 2028, she will resume POGOS. So Why blame on the person who banned it in the first place? And why not blame the person who started the POGO and wanted to resume them?

Philippines we could understand but Indonesia? As the largest Muslim major country in the world, and gambling is forbid (haram) how the people of Indonesia became one of the world's largest online gamblers...?? Indonesians always insulting Malaysia for having a legal casino in Genting Highlands and other legal gambling eg lottery tickets, horse race etc despite of 65% of population are Muslims, but it strictly to non Muslims to enter the casino and allowed to gamble to avoid illegal gambling. Online gambling is illegal in Malaysia and many sites being blocked by MMC to curb illegal gambling, however still are attempt to gamble but the rate far lower than Indonesia or Philippines due to awareness risk of gambling.

Some Indonesian Muslims are not very religious. Many individuals may find themselves adhering to their parents' beliefs primarily out of a sense of tradition rather than genuine personal conviction. Blaming the religion itself is misguided; instead, it’s crucial to recognize the complexity of individual beliefs and practices

Not a gambler, but I can tell that most Filipinos LOVE cheap dopamine. This is a silent crisis among us. People don’t know that they are often studied so these gambling companies understand how to keep people hooked into the gambler’s fallacy.

Social media and mobile games program brains to crave those dopamine hits. Children are the most vulnerable. Filipinos don't care about the bad effects of soc med. We even take pride that our country is the social media capital of the world. Tiktok is particularly insidious. Lots of us play mobile games. Many of those games have some gambling component involved.

So already it makes no mathematical sense to even touch it... you KNOW its like throwing your money down the toilet. Plus today we now know its just a dopamine high that these casinos manipulate. If we KNOW all this, why gamble? Are these people's intellect truly not stronger than the petty tactics casino employ?

If you bet 1 and win 100 for first two times, it makes you think it is so easy to win. Tomorrow you woukd bet 100 expecting winning 10000. That's human greed nature, everyone loves money. And most love money with minimum effort, instead of through hard work.

I know a friend who worked at POGOs in the PH, he said these jobs provide better services like housing costs, allowance and medical bills. But to find a good POGO job which provides these kind of services and your safety, requires you to risk applying through shady ones. He said it's worth the risk because they paid him three to four times more than an average Filipino job. He worked for 3 years since COVID. Now he's building a mansion in his yard right below my neighbourhood back in Cambodia.
