Tupai King is one of the latest varieties of Premium Durian approved by Malaysia DOA with code D214(2021). Musang King is D197. If you want the latest Durian varieties approved in 2024 is D229 Cenderawasih. All this new varieties above D200 will be hard to get in the singapore market as they are newly registered and not many durian orchard have this type of varieties due to scarcity of seedlings by its owner altogether with the durian tree that has not matured yet. Whatever you see in the singapore market is largely the varieties from code D1 until D200.

No need to expose anyone. If you see terms like "black gold", "king of kings" etc. It should already ring a bell that the seller gave those fanciful names to mark up the price. That should already be a red flag. Mao Shang Wang are only graded as A, B or C based on the fruit shape and how many "meat-filled" sections and not its taste by the durian plantations. Grade A is big and not odd shaped, grade B is odd shaped and grade C is small baby-sized. So it is possible for grade C to taste better than grade A but grade C will almost never have more meat than grade A.

In singapore, i've seen many durian sellers(those non-reputable ones) selling fake varieties as the real ones. For example, i've seen D13 sold as D175 red prawn(红虾 or udang merah). Some even sell Thai MonThong (Golden Pillow or 金枕头) as Musang king at Musang king price! The rest are shown in the video, old tree, highland old tree, black gold, wang zhong wang, tai shan wang etc all are simply still Musang king but they sell u at higher price. Advice to buy from reputable sellers with a long history in the durian business, they won't sell u fake varieties coz they have a reputation to uphold.

The Thai Chanee durian that is grown in Northern Malaysia is D15. It will drop when they are ripe and with some alcoholic taste but the flesh is not as smooth as the Musang King. To me, all durian were once known as "kampong durian". Over the generations, during the mass commercialisation of the food, businessmen, particularly the Chinese durian dealer and grower began to give names to the difference varieties. Like the musang king, there were 3 versions of its originality. Some durians had good taste and texture, as good as Musang King. They use to call bit Pumpkin because of its 5 star bottom or shape of a pumpkin. That is my take.

How did the panel visually tell the difference between the Black Gold and MSW? I'm really curious and very interested to learn. I love eating durians and ever since I've learned that King of Kings, Black Gold, Old Tree and MSW are basically all MSW, I've refused to pay more than the prevailing market price of MSW for any durian that's labelled as those premium ones. I see it as the seller trying to make more money by using these marketing "tricks". But I don't want to just use a blanket "ban" on them. If there is a real distinguishing visual characteristic to it, I want to learn it. May not make me willing to pay more for it, but at least I can tell if a seller is honestly asking for more because it is "premium" MSW, or if he's just taking advantage of the "premium" name.

I spotted a brand of oatmilk containing Oil as the 2nd ingredient (isn’t that worse than drinking full fat milk)? 3. Are carbonated drinks unhealthier than non-carbonated drinks? I recently spotted that the tetra packed Chrysanthemum Tea is actually sweeter than Coca Cola (nutritional facts per 100ml).

C 'on CNA ! Musang King is from an unknown pedigree , that was a product of chance discovery , among the pool of all the above named varieties which are geographical varieties , from monsoon side of the Peninsula where there 's one wild durian that has not been taxamocically "discovered". This excempts the Black Thorn. All the local varietiy names pre-date the Musang King , but don't measure up , but from which pool , came the Musang King. These local varieties are so limited that "geographical variety" feels a mismnomer.(There's not enough fruits to export to Singapore , let alone China.) Durian segregation paleontologically is down to the annual migration route of the flying fox. (You don't see that anymore. The fruit bat does't really cross state borders , and are distracted by banana nectar.) (On top of that guano's got a price on it's head , illegal it may be to harvest.) By the time the British landed in Malaya , they recorded "pollen contamination" i.e. hybridization. ( Malayan Botany). Anthropologically durian seeds travel a long distance in someone's pocket or luggage before and after the British. Propagation looked a different shape , when.
