The positive view: companies are selling convenience and expertise to people that don't want to drink and drive, and aren't walking distance to a good cocktail bar. The negative view: good lord, the margins on this stuff must be huge!!! Cheapest possible alcohol, some artificial flavours and soda.

I actually don’t like these type of canned cocktails. There’s something about the type or quality of the alcohol in it. I can drink like two of them back to back and don’t really feel the alcohol at all. Then an hour later I have a headache and feel bloated. I suspect they are using cheap $6 / liter Russian vodka. At home, I will add a shot or two of gin to something like grapefruit or cranberry juice. Or, I’ll add a shot of bourbon whiskey to a beer. That’s a simple enough cocktail and is way better than this canned stuff you buy in the store. Even in restaurants, I don’t like the mixed drinks and will stick with wine or bottled beer.

Interesting that Sam Adams when the market dropped in the canned liquor industry and the company found itself with a swollen cache of unsalable product... Adopted in lieu of selling off its Warehouse inventory at a discount, the company chose... Literally... To dump that inventory as written off "sunk" cost. What could reasonably be posited is that the brand was concerned that demonstrating a product could be offered at a discount might co-op its ability to sustain a price for its complementary regular inventory of spirits at the optimal price point. Corporations are highly sensitive to sustaining optimal revenue where it would often confound applying organic economic supply and demand function.
