Unfortunately even without political tensions between Canada and China, it is highly unlikely that BYD and other mainstream Chinese carmakers will export cars to Canada anytime soon. Most car markets across the world such as Australia, SE Asia, Latin America etc follow European safety standards, and since modern Chinese cars are meant for export as well, they are designed to meet those European standards, and with minimal modifications can be sold in all those markets as well. Canadian standards instead follow the US. Not that it is any more or less safe than European standards, but just different enough that it would cost BYD a good amount of time and resources to modify their cars to meet the US standards. The upshot is the only reason BYD would sell cars in Canada would be they are also planning to enter the US market, and by federalizing their cars for US FMVSS standards, they would also essentially meet all Canadian standards. However, since it is unlikely BYD will enter the US market any time soon, not after what the US did to Huawei and any other Chinese brands considered a threat to "national security", BYD would not waste the time and money to federalize their cars just to sell in Canada.

BYD is selling a lot of cars in Mexico. I remember 20 years ago Mexicans used to buy used cars in US border towns because American and Japanese made cars were and still are more expensive in Mexico than in the US. For example, the Honda Accord is about $10K more in Mexico than in the US. Then about 5 years ago Chinese brands started being sold in Mexico and the average middle class and lower middle class Mexicans are buying them left and right. The Mexicans figure, why buy a used American car in Laredo, TX when I can buy a new competitively priced car in Mexico and pay no import tax? Chinese companies are starting to manufacture a lot in Mexico also. Every time my wife and I go to Monterrey we see more and more Chinese people. If the US continues on its "America first and screw the rest of the world" policies Canada and Mexico will probably pivot and foster tighter trade relations with the rest of the world.

If you take climate change seriously, you dont buy new car, but old one, preferably diesel and keep it running into foreseeable future, while making your own fuel from oil plants. Parts are possible to make your self since tech is simple and communities grow around keeping them going millions of km's, while good ev can go only 10 years top before its ready to be scrapped as the battery replacement costs more than cars value. Also no special steels, just take broken washing machine and weld a patch from sheet metal. Insurance is cheaper since resale value is next to nothing, but so it purchase price and sheet metal is far cheaper than replacing the whole car cause someone kicked football on the front bumper that houses the 1500€ adaptive cruise control sensor. Cheap as in Chinese cheap EV's dont last, can easily catch on fire due poor quality, emitting toxic fumes, so yeah very environmentally friendly to burn them and recycling is very expensive when just one cell causing thermal runaway in recycling yard can light the 150tons of batteries with no way to put them out other than let them burn out...

They not only are vertically integrated from the mining to the finished product, but also invented the mining technology and battery chemistry makeup etc. for the foreseeable future, the Americans and Europeans will cannot compete with these brands unless there is protectionism. The remaining 10% is very remote mountainous region. It’s 97% now. EV’s are great fit for Nepal, with single charge you can travel between main cities and with 1/2 further charges.. can cover most of the main travel destinations. Non-evs has 289% tax +profit margin. Toyota RAV4 hybrid starts at nearly $100k, just to compare its starts with around 35k in US. Crazy right?

I love how the EU says China is dumping cars when they sell at a higher price in Europe than China and this is before the Chinese price wars. If the EU want BYD, MG, Li, Xpeng & Nio can further increase the prices🤣
@Guesswhokk8 ай бұрын
It called "Predatory pricing" it actually illegal in "competition law", because of heavy Chinese Government subsidies that can artificially drown out the more expensive EU competition rivals. Because for one, China cost of living is much lower than EU, meaning China by default with 1.4bn people will have natural unfair advantage to every country on Earth (perhaps except India), regardless if China decide to create a crappy product or not. Why do you think Chinese Government heavily subsidies BYD, if it really a successful company?
@美美的-d2h8 ай бұрын

@@Guesswhokk They did subsidize companies in the beginning because they are serious about reducing CO2. The EU did the same thing. Our unelected EU leaders are just lying to you. They don't care about climate change. If anything, the reason why European car companies are struggling to compete with China are their sanctions against cheap Russian energy. Either way, those subsidize are no longer in place in China.

The lowest price for electric vehicles in China is only over 50000 RMB, not exceeding 9000 US dollars. Like Tesla cars, it features a large screen display, driving assistance, fast charging, refrigerator, massage heated seats, and more. You can use it for short distance transportation. Ordinary Chinese people can afford it with just one year's income. Sell at least $20000 or more in the United States. If Chinese electric vehicles come to the US market for sale, with shipping costs not exceeding $10000, then the US automotive industry will only go bankrupt and a large number of automotive workers will lose their jobs. To be honest, the manufacturing industry in the United States is a corgi dog in a cage, while the manufacturing industry in China is a beast. Without the cage of tariffs and trade protection, American manufacturing cannot defeat Chinese manufacturing.

@shuangzhou84458 ай бұрын
In all seriousness, I understand why Musk didn't think of them as competition 4 years ago. When BYD was making ICE cars, their cars were not great, and I've heard stories of safety issues with BYD from the 2010-2018 period. They started to make better cars when we entered the electric age, and they have their own battery supply so that's a huge advantage. The Han sedan in 2021 really turned it around for BYD in terms of perception and they have been rising ever since.

Basic rule for newcomers and account managers: never risk more than 2% of your account on any single trade. This is why you need to invest well over $10,000 to make any significant profits from day trading. Big gains are made incrementally. With small accounts, you might earn a few hundred dollars here and there. With large accounts, it's possible to make a few thousand dollars here and there.
