BYD Seal Excellence owner here, my views are this: - It’s very fast off the line, not so much at higher speeds, cuts off at 120mph - Looks amazing inside and out - Very comfortable to drive - Lots of gadgets and settings that take getting used to; once you’ve got it set up and understand it all it’s fine, only issue is traffic warning needs turning off each time - Stereo system is great - Voice control for most features - Apple Car Play is great, getting a 3rd party bridge Carlinkit to make full screen mirror and other app use to work eg Netflix / KZbin - The front parking sensors are useless, kick in at 50cm (but if you look it’s much less than 50cm imo) - Rear parking sensors too quiet - Range is nowhere near what they say. I drove in eco, standard range (not dynamic), turned AC off, turned screen off, brake regen on high and a 20 mile journey knocked 40 miles off my battery; perhaps in warmer weather it’ll be less noticeable It’s a great car all in all though, real head turner, you won’t see many about and it’ll leave a dual motor Tesla M for dust at take off from traffic lights, unless it’s the performance model.

There's a lot of corner cutting in the software for sure. But I think a lot of quality talent is missing in the industry anyway. Taking a CS degree won't educate you on how to make reliable and performance-aware software - at least not if you took it after 1990. Most software is focused on time to market and imagined reusability ("Clean Code™"), in my experience. Tesla's software has some above average software parts but other parts are severely lacking, simply judging from the clock speed of the hardware. I can't speak to QA but they don't have the best rumors. They're mostly focused on impact safety, I've read. It feels like they're cost-cutting and preparing for the future, sacrificing UX in the present.

@@Muskar2 It's not really about the way it's coded- it's a design flaw. We have an ID4 with no one pedal drive possible, and a '23 M3. One pedal is absolutely the way to go and we both prefer it. Getting back into the ID4 is a letdown, plus having to always flip the lever twice just to get it into B for Regen, annoying. In the '24 M3 it looks like they won't let you switch one pedal off, while in our '23 there are three brake modes which is great. Tesla and VW are both mistaken. All cars should have one pedal as an option, but allow the driver to choose like our '23. And it should be able to remember your preferred setting. This is all easy in software so it's pretty nasty they don't all do this.

To answer your question about adjusting the regen braking in the previous version of the Model 3; the previous Model 3 Performance version allows you to adjust the front rear power balance, reduce/remove the effect of the stability control and adjust the regen braking effect down as low as you want in its "Track Mode". This mode was only available in the Performance version but it allows you to make the car rotate in a very controlled manner (a bit like a well sorted BMW M car). As you hinted at in the video, the only electric cars that are a practical proposition for long journeys in the UK (or elsewhere?) are the Teslas, for the simple reason that the Tesla Supercharger network is large and well distributed, with many chargers (8-16) at each location, whereas the public network is patchy and you're lucky to find a couple of working charge points at each location.

@lowkeyconvert89715 ай бұрын
erm, why are you putting the onus on lowering prices on BYD when it's likely the europeans putting their high tariffs on (might even be 100% tariff) to prevent chinese competition?
@Sly945 ай бұрын
They can't lower their prices, it's do with EU tariffs that have more than doubled on Chinese imported cars. Germany lost their edge and can't compete so their automotive complex lobbies the EU constantly to get their own way, any EV's from China will have tariffs to jack up the prices of imports and make them look as if they are priced poorly compared to German cars. The goal is to obviously push consumers into picking a German car rather than a Chinese car to fuel the German economy. Tariffs used to be 17.1% now they're at 38.4% which has rightly annoyed China along with smaller EU nations as this means they can't get a cheap EV anymore in a time in which the EU have mandated a stop sell on combustion engines from 2035.

I have one of the new Tesla Model 3s. I prefer the minimalist interior, but I agree they've gone too far with the stalk removal. The turn signal buttons are harder to use, especially when the steering wheel is inverted. The gear shifter is awkward, especially in situations where you have to change quickly or often, like parking. I'd even go so far as to say they detract from safety - you have to look at the steering wheel sometimes to locate the turn signal buttons and sometimes it's just easier not to indicate. Several times I've made a mistake with the gear shifter and ended up going in the wrong direction, it's surprisingly easy to do. @@timseytiger9280 have you spent much time in a Tesla? Fast and smooth. People might like the engine noise etc from ICE vehicles but when you drive a lot I'd much prefer the calm easy quiet driving of a Tesla. Most people think the dynamics of a Model 3 are good, not outstanding so it isn't bad by any stretch.

I bought a model Y, but if the BYD is available in the US, I would pick it over the Tesla. That gear change on screen is ridiculous, why makes simple thins complicated?

Rented a model 3 for 3 days in Canada while on vacation. My car is an X3 and I have had sporty sedans before (being a sort of fan of “nervous” type of cars with character). Conclusion: The Tesla won me because it is so easy to DO EVERYTHING YOU NEED ON A ROUTINE basis. It becomes YOU. The control of speed, grip, acceleration, cruise control, charging points and overall FUN while feeling SUPER safe. Cons: Does not have a HUD, yes I love that in my X3!!! I use it to control the different speed zones and for quick GPS instructions. BTW guys there is an option on the 2023 model to adapt de de-de acceleration mode in levels ! My wife never liked it as much as the combustion engine coasting but it just takes a little of getting used to (30 mins). The entertainment system is lots of fun if you have kids like me ! The auto software update in my opinion is more of an advantage ! Great comedy in the trunk guys 😂

The BYD isn't supposed to cost that much. It is far cheaper in Asia, which is why it has been so popular recently. In Europe, European cars are cheaper but Asian cars are more expensive. It's the same vice vera.

It is cheaper because they aare supported by the Chinese government. Soon every major market would wake up to that reality and start putting tariffs on the Chinese as China wants to dominate and thus they undercut the competition.
@dingyibvs9 ай бұрын
@@Undisputed_King That's only a minor part as BYD makes something like ~10x the profit per car in Europe compared to in China. The real reason is that BYD is capacity constrained, not just in manufacturing, but in distribution, sales, support, etc. in Europe right now. If they sold them with a similar profit margin as cars in China, there would be a year-long backlog of orders.

Bit of a correction: at 13:22 the "Recall" (a software update) was for Tesla to update their Autopilot driver monitoring system to more actively watch the driver and alert them when they take their eyes off of the road due to a few incidents of drivers abusing the system which lead to injuries or death in resulting crashes. The reason Park Assist (along with some other EAP features) isn't working is because ever since Tesla switched to fully using their Vision (camera only) system from the "Vision plus Ultra Sonic Sensors" setup, they haven't fully re-enabled everything. They will re-enable everything in the future however there is no timeline as of typing this.

This is why I bought a Model 3 Gen 2 instead of Gen 3. The gen 2 does have the Creep options. Also has the better gear shift and signal poke. Has even more room under the boot and drives somehow better and faster because it has 513hp.
