This is actually rather Inaccurate and extremely Misleading... 1. The European Commission does not Propose or Decide on Laws. Your Explanation Suggests that the Commission. (Which is not an Elected Body of the EU) Would have the Power to basicly Suggest Legislation itself. However its Part of the Executive. Not the Legislative. It does not have the Power to Suggest or Propose Laws itself. It "Writes" Laws. Upon Request by the Elected Government Members. The European Commission is the Civil Servants of the EU. When Laws are Proposed or Considered by the Parliament of the EU or the Council of the EU. The Commission will then Write these Laws in Accordance with Legal Procedure and Expert Knowledge on the Single Aspects of the Law. It is then Send back to the Party which Requested it to be Submitted as an actual Proposal for a Law so it can be Voted upon. 2. When you say the European Parliament is the only Body in the EU which is Directly Representing the People then this is Partially Wrong and very Misleading. Because it Suggests to People that only the European Parliament is Elected. However this is not the Case. The European Council are the Leaders of each Member Country and have a Voting Power Relative to the Countries which they Represent. As all of these Countries are Democracies. All of these are Elected. Same goes for the Council of the European Union which consists of the Ministers of each Country and thus of Members of this Countries Elected Parties. Meaning that actually All 3 of the Main Decision Making Bodies of the EU. Are Elected by EU Citizens. And are either in Direct or Indirect Representation of the EU Population.
@Endermankiller5 жыл бұрын
You should really check this stuff before correcting people. The European commission is the sole EU body with the right of legislative initiative. Neither the European parliament nor the council of the EU has a right to formally propose laws. The European parliament can only request a proposal of new laws from the commission but the latter is not obligated to so.
@BineroBE5 жыл бұрын
@@Endermankiller The EU Council can propose legislation.
@BineroBE5 жыл бұрын
The European Commission is elected in the same way the UK government is elected. People vote for a party. The leading candidate of the winning coalition becomes president, and picks the cabinet. It can absolutely propose law. The European Council sets forward a policy agenda which the European Commission implements by writing legislative proposals. Those are sent to European Parliament who approves, rejects or amends the law. It is then sent to the Council, who does the same. This back and forth continues one more time, after which if there is no result, the is rejected automatically. In some areas of policy the European Parliament is circumvented and does not get to vote. Only the member states vote in this case. Since 2009 the Parliament has the right to demand a legislative proposal from the Commission within a time frame. The Commission can ignore this, however since the parliament has the right to disband the Commission and elect a new one, there are risks involved for the Commission to ignore a demand for a proposal.
@Endermankiller5 жыл бұрын
@@BineroBE I don't know if you mean the European council or the council of the EU but neither of them has a formal right to propose legislature. They can only ask the commission to do so similarly to the parliament. Of course it is virtually impossible for the commission to ignore such requests (in most cases), but still, only the commission has the right of initiative.
@BineroBE5 жыл бұрын
@@Endermankiller The EU Council is the shortened version of the Council of the European Union. In general though, often just "Council" is used since they are both so intertwined it doesn't always make sense to think of them as seperate. The EU-Council absolutely can propose legislation on its own, bypassing all other institutions, but the needed majority is a super qualified majority. A regular vote would only require a regular qualified majority.

If your country is a "member state" of the EU, your laws are subject to the Primacy of European Union law, and that is an EU law principle that when there is conflict between European law and the laws of member states, European law prevails, and the norms of National law must be set aside. Did you forget to mention how France and Germany 'sold £230million of military hardware including bombs, missiles and guns to Moscow' - likely used in Russia's invasion of Ukraine - despite EU-wide arms embargo in wake of 2014 annexation of Crimea. The EU banned 'the direct or indirect sale, supply, transfer or export of arms' Countries used a technicality that permitted contracts signed before 2014. France was responsible for making €152 million as part of 76 export licences.

Technicality? Contacts have penalty clauses so that they will be honored.

Just as police upped they game on the front line. Think that Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not to warn us but rather to advertise it on the basis of it being controlled to some extent. Big industry in those early days. Rules of engagement will change. Don't get left behind.
