The world is mired in $315 trillion of debt, according to the latest May report by the Institute of International Finance.
This latest global debt wave has been the biggest, fastest, and most wide-ranging rise since World War II, coinciding with the Covid-19 pandemic.
With global debt at a record high, should we be concerned?

Actually, it's not that bad. US$315tn for US$110tn annual GDP, is just 3x. Debt is not an annualized metric hence, it's actually not too bad. I think it would be more meaningful to narrow down to the top 5 countries with the highest total debt/GDP instead. Anything more than 5x would be a concern.

This is too woke and misunderstood. Debt is not bad! The global monetary system functions on debt. If we want to have money at all, we need to have debt. Because all of your debts are someone's else assets. The real problem is not debt per se, but interest on it, and inflation. Right now they are a bit high, so we should stop spending. But since 2008 to 2020 interest rates and inflation was near 0, so debt was absolutely not a problem, it was incentivised even. More education is needed

The leaders get together and say woe, our populations will expect us to reduce taxes because we're both making surpluses. How about I lend my $1 bn to you and you lend yours to me. Now, for budgetary purposes, we both have debts instead of surpluses and we both have to raise taxes. Problem solved.

In recent times, there has been a noticeable trend of American interventionism, where the pursuit of war and economic interests seem to intertwine. As the world economy expands, so too does liquidity within the banking system. Ten years from now that $315T will be much higher, and it will be no more of a problem than it is today.
