Swiss here; getting caught smoking weed will get you a fine of 100 CHF, possession up to 10 grams carries no criminal penalties. This applies regardless of the Canton you’re in. Drugs, including cannabis, are regulated at the federal, not cantonal, level. Unless you’re slinging kilos of dope, the chances you’ll get any kind of prison sentence is also quite low. You can expect a decently steep fine though. Tobacco (separate law) does actually have some cantonal differences, in most cantons the age to purchase is 18 years, in some cantons it’s 16. Though this is due to change (18 years nationwide) on the 1st of October 2024.

Swiss here, got caught with less than 10g and the cop just took all I had, threw it in the toilets in front of me, made me sign a paper that basically said ''got caught with x grams of cannabis, got dumped in the toilet, fully destroyed''. Once signed, they just left without giving me any additional fine. So no 100.-! Then again, I live in the canton of Jura so the cops are super chill, idk if the same would've happened in Zurich or Geneva, probably not. There was even an instance when the cop that caught me just made me sign the same paper mentioned before but let me go without really destroying it. I guess it really depends what cop you're dealing with.
@SeidenFisk
@SeidenFisk 5 ай бұрын
@@catnip294 The fine only applies to smoking, possession carries no penalties. I can confirm that the cops (at least in the canton of Bern) don’t really care to waste their time with weed. I got stopped and searched by the cops once (for unrelated reasons) while having a lit joint in my hands. When they were done, they asked me what that is, I told them what it is, and they told me to “take it home and destroy it”. Of course I dutifully followed their instructions by continuing to destroy (smoke) it thereafter. They really don’t care to waste their time on weed, and understandably so, people who smoke weed just sit around and eat too much.

To apologize to the international community for its misconduct in accepting Nazi gold, Switzerland agreed to pay 250 million Swiss francs in compensation for the reconstruction of Europe in 1946. The amount that Switzerland voluntarily donated far exceeds the profit it made from the Nazi gold. (More than 10 times) This part of the story is usually not told and Switzerland is portrayed as the one who enriched itself through the Nazis.

What mostly is also forgotten: Switzerland ended with 125% of GDP debt by the end of WWII. The costs of military deterrence did far outweigh the profit from trade with the axis. They only reason, that didn't linger was the Swiss industry was used in reconstruction of europe. US btw. only accumulated about 112%. They also went on to doing well, as their intact industry helped rebuilt.

During World War II, Switzerland was not the profiteer that the media often portrays it as. In fact, the Swiss economy suffered significantly during this time and the GDP went down. Even before World War II, Switzerland was already a prosperous nation. Switzerland had to provide Germany with clearing credits during the Second World War-essentially, interest-free loans that were never repaid. While it's true that Switzerland later profited from gold gaining value over time, it’s misleading to focus solely on that. It’s like saying that if you had invested in cryptocurrency a decade ago or Apple stock 40 years ago, you’d be wealthy today. It’s slander and poor research to overlook the fact that Switzerland had to pay clearing credits econ!

I would advise anyone to watch the SRF and arte documentaries about this before concluding in any way, it‘s not that simple. But there were great individuals who took tremendous risk to help Jewish people like Paul Grüninger. The federal council knew what Germany was doing from 1942 onwards - they still decided to refuse more Jewish refugees and constructed an economic narrative around the topic to justify their announcement. One of the Federal Councils - Marcel Pilet-Golaz - seemed to be very open to rearrange his views with those of our fascist neighbours in Italy and Germany. I recommend Martin Bucher‘s publication about the RDJ in Switzerland, it is accessible online (Uni ZH). The Reichsdeutsche Jugend rented the Hallenstadion in Zurich, banners with Swastikas were all over the building and the Reichsadler welcomed the German diaspora of Switzerland. 10'000 NSDAP members celebrated thanksgiving (in the European sense). The Swiss authorities let it happen. Our history during WWII is complex, many shades of grey but certainly not neutral and hardly a period we should pride ourselves for.

Also people forget that it was the governments job to keep the country out of this and its people save. So of course you play along with your neighbour who is the biggest war monger in history. Like who would have helped Switzerland when Germany decided to destroy it? No one helped Poland when they were on the chopping block. So i think it is easy to say "they shouldn't have traded with Germany",. ignoring the consequences.

The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.

Despite utilizing the correct strategies and possessing the right assets, there can still be variations in the investment returns among different investors. It is important to acknowledge that experience plays a crucial role in investment success. Personally, I realized the significance of this and sought the guidance of a market analyst, which enabled me to substantially grow my account to nearly a million. I strategically withdrew my profits just before the market correction, and now I am taking advantage of the buying opportunities once again.

fun fact the ai wont tell you: austria is in a sense swiss. they were founded by the habsburg dynasty, the castle of habsburg, where that line is from, is in modern day aargau, switzerland. so in a sense the habsburgs (our biggest historical enemy) were themselves swiss, since their home territory now belongs to switzerland and has been considered helvetic/räthian territory before that. from their name it would also make sense, "österreich" means "eastern realm", its not really east of germany, a bit yes, but mostly its south of germany. but austria is exactly east of switzerland. and why would natives call themselves the eastern ones? wouldnt it make sense if the ones giving the region the name came from the west? like when a nobility acquires new lands? so in my mind the austrians are kind of a monarchist swiss colony. doesnt really matter just a funny thought.

Of course, the system has its flaws - not the least of them - but it works and can be perfected. Clearly - living here (if you can afford it) is a real opportunity. Switzerland is a very good example of the application of the Pareto law. You have commendable things like Swiss people excelling at stability, financial prudence, entrepreneurship accounting for 80% of the effort, but 20% of the result. Then you have things like war economy and dubious foreign gold, art and currencies import in WW2 while collection of worldwide money laundry is much relevant still today, and these account for like the remaining 80% of the success...

@@WIISTERIAAAAAAA well, very easy actually: tax evasion was not invented overnight in Europe, it gradually started during the 19th century, together with the adoption of modern tax systems throughout Europe. Switzerland was already then granting bank secrecy, which was finally made mandatory by law in 1934, thus ensuring large capital influxes boosting the internal investments, i.e. that other 80% of the effort.

Ways that a country can become rich in a short span of time: 1.Have giant reserves of oil and gas or some other high value and high demand resource with a small population 2. Be a tax haven/financial services hub with a small population 3. Get lots of grants from USA and other rich countries (like Israel) 4. Colonization If the above conditions are met, have a dictatorship.

Lets think about this. If I am a corrupt government official and steal one billion dollars from my country or drug dealer and made one billion dollar , I won't keep this amount of money in my country. 100% sure. So where the money will go? 100% sure not to Russia, China. May be one or two million dollars to Canada or Australia or USA but not that amount of money because there can be problem of money laundering. That amount of money will go to Switzerland or Luxembourg or England ( Guernsey Island banks or Cayman Island banks which are out of British jurisdiction ). That amount of money - where I can invest? Remember I must stay low profile and I'm not a businessman. I can buy 5 or 10 properties total 30 or 40 millions worth. After that what I can buy some vintage cars may be 20 millions worth. The rest will be in these banks forever. I can't and don't need to take my money out from the bank. These are the black money and not easy to make it white .Historically these illegal money were in these banks. I may die and the money will still be in the bank. No wonder Swiss, British, Luxembourgers are rich. Don't believe they are rich because of manufacturing or higher education level or something. They are rich with stolen and illegal money.

Please fix your title, it should be: "How did Switzerland become the most advanced economy". Remember it's "did + infinitive", did is already in its past tense, therefore it is wrong to use the second verb's simple past form. Alternatively you can use: "How Switzerland became the most advancecd economy".

@ccii-ch6gf well I strongly doubt that. Switzerland, so say it bluntly, is just the paradise for all the rich and the mighty. Here they can do and achieve whatever they want. There are no limits to their richness, to their might and to their power. And the state is under their full control. All the property of Switzerland belongs to the rich of from all over the world. Paradise on earth for them! They are the bosses of Switzerland. About the other side of Switzerland one would better not discuss. Because where there is paradise for the ones and the view, for all the others of the many there is dispair and hopelesness.

For the average Swiss resident, it has become virtually impossible to ever own property. We may have high incomes, but most of that is spent on ludicruously high rents (2500 USD per month for a 100 square room apartment in regular cities, 4000 and up in Zurich and Geneva) are now the norm. Ot only makes landlords richer whilst keeping everyone else at net worth zero.
