I'm a working class lad from rural England and I wear Patagonia. If you're put off by tech and finance bros also wearing Patagonia, you need to revaluate why you like the brand in the first place. I buy and wear Patagonia because of the values of the brand and the progressive measures the company takes. I have nothing in common with Wall St types but I'm happy for them to give their money to a company that's going to do some good with it while making a genuine attempt to mitigate the environmental impact of consumerism.

I like Patagonia because it has a great ethos about it. It's the Subaru of clothing companies. In an industry where you have Shein and other fast fashion giants polluting and wasting the world with cheap and crappy clothing, it's nice to see a company that creates good clothing that lasts. It's also good to see a company stand by its products and even have a worn wear website for used clothing so people can buy older clothing from others. Their repair service is also really great. They are expensive, but I think they are worth it and perform very well.

When I was younger I associated this brand with fishermen, nowadays I see snobs and hippies wearing it. Carhartt, on the other hand, represents hard work and I see that in hip-hop culture to make it big.
@s.flanders4 жыл бұрын
Lol, you know a brand has been successful when they manage to manipulate you into thinking they stand for something, other than generating profits for their shareholders. If you think wearing Carhartt means you're a hard worker, you've been successfully influenced by Carhartt's marketing people.
@infini.tesimo4 жыл бұрын
@@s.flanders what marketing team? Go look at look at the hip hop scene. Where'd you get off on that idea?
@s.flanders4 жыл бұрын
@@infini.tesimo The fact that you're not even aware of the ways in which you (and the others who wear Carhartt) have been influenced to think that Carhartt represents hard work means their marketing team is doing a very good job. If people you admire are wearing Carhartt, there's a good chance some of them are getting paid for it.
@infini.tesimo4 жыл бұрын
@@s.flanders so you're saying that you have not bought because you like a brand's message or style? I'm not sure what angle you're trying to play at like you are woke but it's not working because you would be lying to me to say you don't buy like that either.
@s.flanders4 жыл бұрын
@@infini.tesimo "Style" is fundamentally different from "message." I'm sure I've chosen certain brands in the past because of expectations I had simply because that's what their marketing teams worked hard to create. Plus, almost no one is immune to the subtle effects of effective advertising. But in general, I aim to choose products based on quality, value, and (depending on the type of product) aesthetics. Evaluating all of those qualities objectively is tough, but brands that try to appeal to you with their message may not be focusing their resources on those other qualities, so I've learned to look out for it. The fact that you think Carhartt stands for hard work is almost certainly a result of Carhartt's efforts. They surely know that it's effective for their products to be seen on people who are perceived as hard workers, because many potential customers aspire to have that image. But buying a product says almost nothing about how hard a worker your are.

I was rocking the Fleece vests back in the late 90's early 2k's. Fleece zip downs and sweaters were the standard sinter ski wear attire. able to keep you thoroughly warm without the need of a heafy winter coat. The Vests were even better as they provided both Torso warmth with just enough air passthrough as not to become overly hot, and a ton of additional mobility as the sleeveless design freed the constraint of ones arms. And to top all things off, the look worked very well for all occasions. I typically owned such vests from Columbia brand but also had a few Patagonia as well. in fact ive been looking to purchase again.

Please evaluate the "cost per use" for your items. Per use a Patagonia will cost you less than the Walmart junk.

I am from India and ran into their KZbin channel one day. I thought they were an environmentalist organization, never knew it is a clothing brand.

Patagonia has always been 40%-50% more in price than most competitors. Even North face is much less. Thats the real appeal to tech bros...its expense. When you Patagonia, the tag/logo isn't hidden, they make sure its large and prominent, thus showing the world you can afford a Patagonia. No one buys a Gucci hand bag because of it's "quality", they buy it because the logo is covering the bag and they want to show everyone around they can afford it. Simple cut and dry case of consumer brand association. Marketing 101 If Nike started removing their shoosh logo, their sales would drop to next to nothing because their shoes arent any better than the $30 payless no-name brands, they just market it better. Patagonia has a great marketing team and saw the potential backlash of tech bros being their main consumer representation and decided to pretend they didnt like it, which increased their sales. "dont buy this jacket"....awesome ad that will make the tech bros feel like rebels when they do buy it...all the while speaking to the SJW's that they are on their side. Brilliant action and makes perfect sense.

@Expert ShinyGlassesDude Mad? where did you get that? There is no animosity towards the simple supply and demand model and i was quite complimentary to Patagonia for their marketing expertise. Strange response all in all. Perhaps re-reading my comment would help clarify my stance?

Why do these news sites talk about meme accounts like that’s something to aspire to, don’t they know people can buy followers. Im just here to tell you having a meme account is not an accomplishment.

Interesting piece, I’ve never bought anything Patagonia and never will. They have gone the way of North Face.

Will you at least use the proper “you’re” if you’re going to fish for likes and subs?
