So as I understand it, her smart cousin had a 529 plan in place for himself, which is a tax-free savings strictly for education, but he ended up getting full scholarships to all of the colleges he applied to so she got to use his tuition savings instead for her education. And now, she's paying it forward by footing the bill for her sister's education. If that isn't family helping family, than I dunno what is! From another Southeast Asian, you are an amazing human.

LoL. Go and look what these churches do in those third world countries than you'll understand that her generosity is doing much harm than good. These rich evangelical organization stall and disrupt many infrastructure projects through many NGOs in the name of environment. They also create artificial poverty and shortage so that they can lure the poor people towards christianity by taking advantage of their misery. These churches also fuel ethnic/religious riot and cleansing in many countries. Church of new zealand financed a genocide of indeginous people in north east india

Happens in Australia too. It's happening everywhere. Neoliberal capitalism has made life too expensive while wages haven't increased. But the 'brilliant economists' who brought us this system didn't realise that when young people don't have the means to establish their own home, this reduces the size of the economy because they're not buying home stuff.

What I love about her family...her parents and sis just based on this quick montage is that they are go getters and non toxic. We used grants, govt loans and scholarships too. Both of us have lived at home after college graduation just like she did. When I graduated in 2007, I had $18,000 loans. I worked in a medical office at the time in the clerical area and paid all that off in 18 months. My sister had less debt because she was able to get more scholarships. She graduated with no debt. Like many immigrants' children, we saw how they managed money and we didn't want to be in their shoes either so we saved when we can. My sister eventually bought a house for around $200K and paid it off in 4 years from working as an RN. So there you have it. Not only is this girl going to be a millionaire by age 30, her sister is going to be following in her footsteps being featured on Millennial Money as well. Cousin - genius spreads gift of education on to her who then spreads it further to her sister and everyone wins. This is how society is supposed to work in the best case. You just know she's a great and wholesome person when she's not only helping her parents to pay the mortgage, but also paying $700/mon to charity. While I'm not religious whatsoever, the fact that she's so charitable and selfless really speaks volumes about her character. It's that immigrant struggle and hustle. I don't know how you can say anything negative about anything they're doing. Legit hats off to her and her family.

Bring back family values to the U.S. Normalize living with parents. It makes so much financial sense, it buffers you from isolation and mental health problems of not being with people. Your parents get to be a caretaker of your children, and in turn you get to look after your parents. It's a beautiful system.

only if you have a close family with a healthy, supportive dynamic. there is no way I could ever live with my mother (who owns her home and vehicle outright and retired early at 55), although I'm an only child. It's way too toxic of a relationship. Even a once a month phone call is difficult. I'm amazed by families like the one featured here, that seem so genuinely close but not overbearing.
