My lovely husband is a Chimney Sweep in North Wales... he really doesn't make a mess! Lovely to see his counterpart in the U.S. xxx

I so agree with what he said at the end. People who make, maintain and fix things keep this world going. We started telling kids that they had to go to four year college and the trade programs have suffered. Everyone isn't meant for college, and that's not a matter of intelligence. Four year degrees and no viable employment options, plus saddled with decades worth of debt. Learn a trade, and if you are willing to work hard to can write your own ticket. Good for this gentleman and all of the others in this series. It's very inspiring!

Sweeps per week: 300 Revenue per year: $5,000,000 Revenue per sweep: $150 Revenue per repair: $3,000 (assumption) That puts their sweep revenue at approximately $2,250,000, and repair revenue at ~$2,750,000. Assuming they do about 18 repair jobs per week, that would put their conversion rate (% of sweep jobs turning into repair jobs) at ~6%.

Chimney Sweeper is a job that last to today. Here in Germany we have whole Germany seperaited in districts. Every district owns a Chimney Sweeper (he must have the Bachelor Proffesional) and he have to do task for the State, like to control 2 times in 7 years in a House the Chimneys and the fireplace in the house and the central heating machine that makes fire and heat the water for radiators or for showering. The other ones who dont have a district is employee of a district owner and do task like sweeping chimneys (which cost here 30€ to 50€) and checks heater for water and radiators if they work, he checks flowing of the exhaust gases and the particulate matter has to be in a parameter. And here in Germany there are deadlines for the tasks and if the owner of a house isint there or we cant get in, the building authority will try to solve it and the owner can talk why he didnt let the chimney sweepers in and if he wouldnt corporate or didnt come to that. the police and a door mechanic will open up the door for us. and this is since 1868 in Germany. I apologize for my bad English, I hope you understand what I wanted to say. Greetings from Germany, The Chimney Sweeper (Schornsteinfeger)

is that also the case for privately owned homes? here in the US that might be done in a HOA community but not on personally owned homes as far as I'm aware. I've been a sweep for 2 years here.

@@Colbias14 All houses, that have a shimney and installed fireplace. And a heating Maschine powered with gas, oil or anything with a burning procedure. A chimney with a heating machine has to be controlled once a year, if it is one of the new heating machine with the plasticsystem and burning air flowing in this chimneysystem ist will be controlled once all 2 years. There ist one type of heating machine that have a sensor and calibrating itself, this one is all 3 years, but the chimney is all 2 years. If you have a fireplace or oven with burning of wood or coal, we will look how the chniney is looking from inside and how often the people use them. When they use them less then 20 times (days) in a year we will sweep once a year. If ist isn't more then 20 to 40 times a year using his fireplace or oven we come twice, we will sweep between January and March and the second time October to Dezember. When they use them in the whole heating period (October to march) or more than 40 times, we will sweep 3 times a year (then we come mostly September). And if they use them more than that (the whole year) than 4 times, then we will sweep additionally in the summer time. That is staying in our law, there are some chimneys, like once I heard from a other chniney sweeper, they will come to a restaurant every 4 weeks, because burning is such bad.

@bondpit87504 жыл бұрын
Harry Smith, It’s easy to see some needed repairs from the ground,....once it gets bad enough from a general lack of maintenance. A unseen deteriorating crown can allow water to leak into the masonry surrounding the flue, resulting in visible effervescence. A couple of freeze thaw cycles later can pop the face right off the brick. A brick chimney is exposed to harsh weather with no protection. The idea is to inspect and advise of needed maintenance before it gets too bad and the chimney has to be torn down and reconstructed. In this day of digital photos, any damage or needed maintenance can be photographed, video tapped and verified. Most professional trades people are honest and care about delivering a quality result. There are hacks, same as any profession. Caveat emptor applies. Of course, you are always free to do the work yourself. Just remember, it will cost you more to fix it, if you screw it up. What are your limitations and how much is your time worth?

Jud G, What do you think his net is? if he really wanted to, he could easily afford a Ferrari. A brand new Ferrari Portofino can be had for just $225K list. Unless Italian really turns your crank, why bother when a new top of the line mid-engined C8 Corvette is about half the money and with more performance. Even a private jet is within reach with a Jet Card, charter service or fractional ownership. Outright ownership makes very little sense for most casual flyers, even the very wealthy.

@@markstoner5223 it’s CNBC Fake Hollywood. Covering up the fireplace is the way to go. And, the Wet/Dry vac should be outside. That Ash dust is too fine and leaks through the filter. At no point should there be soot introduced into a customers home without proper precautions and preparation! When roto cleaning a fan should be placed at the top of the chimney to properly vent the dust and soot generated by the mechanical sweeping of the flue. Also a plastic easy up room should have been constructed to prevent residual soot from entering the home or at least a sweeps canvas taped in front of the fireplace opening! This video gives no confidence to customers about the safety or care considered to them or their home !
