Sign soto and depend on mark vientos.. a rookie who didn't even play a full year to bat behind him. They and fans talk like vientos is a 5 year with serious stats... There are tons of players every year who had a damn good rookie season and seasons after that they slowly decline. Pete at least has a resume.

Asymmetrical means it’s structured in a very player friendly way and not in the team’s best interest at all. Could be a myriad of things such as opt outs that are unfair to the team.

But, as fans, why do we care if the deal favors the player or the team IF it makes the team better? Do I care if the team pays more? As a fan, should I?
@Dan-tt8sn
@Dan-tt8sn Күн бұрын
@@dashx1103 my comment was neutral. Some people are confused what asymmetrical means so I’m explaining it. As a fan, I agree. Do what it takes to get the best player. But if the rumors are true that Pete is asking for an opt out where he gets to opt out and leave the team and then they still have to pay him a $10 million bonus just for opting out, I do not blame Cohen for saying no to that ridiculous offer. But we don’t even know if that’s true. That’s just what Evan said he thinks what’s going on.
@dashx1103
@dashx1103 Күн бұрын
@ The whole "payment upon opt-out" issue is a bit of a red herring. Did anyone actually claim it was $10 mil? Not that I've heard. These kind of contract provisions are actually fairly common place. Bellinger's contract has been pointed to as a template. Upon opting out, he was entitled to a $2 mil payment. It was just a way to structure the contract, and it actually benefited the team in terms of setting contract value for luxury tax purposes. If it was proposed to be a $10 mil opt out payment ... that seems pretty high. But I've seen that reported nowhere. I'd advise anyone interested to listen to Ryan Finkelstein's comments (Locked on Mets) in which he discusses this.
@Dan-tt8sn
@Dan-tt8sn Күн бұрын
@@dashx1103 I forgot who suggested it was $10M. I watch so many of these KZbin videos, but one of them said something about it being a $30 million salary with a $10 million bonus option. But that could just be hypothetical bc like you said, there have been no real reports of this and the salary they offered was nowhere near $30M. Might’ve been on one of the WFAN podcasts, so take it with a grain of salt. I don’t believe that to be true. Just saying if it’s something ridiculous like that, I’d understand Cohen not doing it. But for only a few million, I won’t understand. We haven’t gotten the truth yet, so I’m remaining neutral at this time. I do want Pete and I know the team is much better with him. Hopefully they come to an agreement.

The contract is actually $825 mil. I don't think that it is a good deal business wise. I doubt that Soto is good for 15 years. Basically you are paying $825 mil for 7 years and then he will be hitting .220. This is bad for the fans since the cost of attending baseball games has skyrocketed. I hope Juan Soto crashes and they will not spend like this anymore. I used to be able to go to a game with my son for $100. Now It is closer to $200.

I’m confused. Why is Soto going to be hitting .220 in 7 years? At age 33 … why should we assume he falls off a cliff? I get the sentiment that the deal probably won’t age well going into the end of a 15 year pact, but the idea that Soto will be anything other than excellent for 7 years seems daft (absent injury, of course).

Mookie Betts is 32 this season and you can bank on an inevitable decline in the not too distant future. He’s already started with injuries last season. That’s the first step. Plus, the market has changed drastically in the last few years. 4 other teams offered over $700M. If you’re so much smarter than all of them, why aren’t you a GM? Watch when an inferior Vlad gets like $10M more a year also.
