CNC Spindle Cable Build Course

After watching your video, I've had to look inside the spindle to confirm if it was grounded or not. Luckily, the G-Penny 1.5k spindle which I've ordered 2 weeks ago is actually grounded on PIN 4.

If it wasn't the spindle would be grounded when you ground the CNC chassis pending the Z axis is metal as it should be, and has no insulating coating/transmission pieces. Thank you, Vince

Just blew up my new VFD because the factory provided spindle cable was faulty. One of the active wires shorted against the spindle chassis and took out the VFD, At least the grounding worked!

I just tested my spindle, no connection from the pin 4 to the case so I pulled the connector, it was blank. I will use the shield to the connector backshell to ground the spindle. Next thing I noticed was the internal wiring of the spindle was very thin, and the insulation was very thin. Plus there was no protection between the wires and the spindle case, they can rub and short with vibration. I will add some protection there.

It looks a bit stiff, how small of a cable chain are that cable possible to be used in?

The size of your cable chain is only relevant by itself if you intend on only using it with the spindle cable only, and no other cables as if you intend on using the cable chain with your motor cables then the chain itself will need to be measured to the appropriate dimensions to support the additional cables. My 16/4 DS spindle cable's outer diameter is 9.3mm with a minimum bend radius of 2.9in. The optimal cable chain size to use is 25.4mm, 1in if the chain will only have this spindle cable in it. Good day. Do you need to use a 4 core cable or can you use a 3 core shielded cable as well, since the spindle itself is grounded via the chasis?

Thank you for your support. This is possible only if the CNC chassis is properly grounded for robotics use to your spindle. Most applications use 4 lead cable for this. Vince

What if the spindle does have the 4th pin ground inside like mine? Would you build a cable differant?

You can either remove its end cap, and attach the lead, or simply ground the CNC chassis as this is required to be done anyway. If the Z axis is metal then it should be conductive with the gantry, which means when the CNC chassis is grounded it will ground the spindle. Thank you, Vince

No, its either grounded at the chassis end, or the VFD end. Not both. Thank you, Vince

sad not can buy, no have ebay = need be paypal account, my paypal account has closed and not can open and or end account and make new account, many time has send mail to paypal help but no help, not can go in account has phone number change many time some year before and no can open my account. just i buy new vevor 2.2KW spindle upgrade my cnc but not easy build own cable because need big cable 220V 10A and aviation plug have very small not go good solder this, and not can add shrink tube because if solder shrink tybe burn ewerytime, and solder not heat good at cable can joint good to plug pins. want buy one 4 pin/core cable but not can pay no have paypal. no easy my cable size have 12mm and aviation plug hole only 7mm. what include to spindle.
