I was a ranger there at Fox 13 years ago now. I was young and so fit, my housemates were rangers too and we used to see who could summit Mt Fox the fastest on our days off, I did sub 2 hours. The girl was a machine and did it 1hr 20. Back then you could walk right up to the glacier on a trail, we used to maintain the path for the visitors. Were talking big unfit tourists so it had to easy going. We would set the biggest boulders we could budge for the river crossings, then a big rain would come down those steep valleys and toss them away like they were nothing. Drank the glacier melt water everyday, delicious.

Sounds like a wonderful time! Summiting Mt Fox in 1.3 hours is impressive stuff! Would have been cool to experience walking up to the glacier. Understandable why you can't these days though. Thanks for watching!

The NZ forests are beautiful,every shade of green I know.And when a mountain panorama suddenly appears on the horizon over which birds of prey majestically fly,it is a fairy tale for which I thank you very much!You can be rightly proud of your sporting performance,well done!

An amazing place and great video. What's a bit depressing though is how much the glacier has receded in the 12 years since I was there!

Would have loved to see the glacier 10-20 years ago! It's very sad that shortly it will be gone, or practically non-existent

Looks like a relatively short (but steap) hike I should put on the list for my 2024 NZ trip ❤

Definitely short and steep! It was quite the slog getting up there. I probably should have shown more of the forest section, but lots of scrambling up rocks/roots and up and over fallen trees. Definitely worth it if you're in the area! Head out to Welcome Flat Hut as well since they are close to each other

My partner and I will be in New Zealand from mid February to the end of March 2025. I did TA in 2023. Loving your videos. They are giving us lots of ideas. Curious. What packs and boots are you using? I have an Osprey 58l. Need to buy Ruth a new pack
@ChrisandDanyaАй бұрын
That's amazing you've completed the TA! That's something Danya and I hope to do one day. We both use Laowa boots, which are good, but quite expensive and not sure I'd spend the money on them again. We use the Osprey Exos/Eja packs in ~48L size and we like them a lot.

Wow. Another awesome video. Which lens or lenses do you use?
@ChrisandDanya Жыл бұрын
Panasonic 12-60mm f2.8-4 is our main lens. Then we use Panasonic 50-200mm f 2.8-4 as our telephoto/wildlife lens. For wide angle/low light we have the Panasonic 9mm f1.7, which I believe was used for the talking shots in the forest.
