For the specs Performance and price it doesn't even compete with the P85D. Its a showpiece but an inefficient one that even for a hybrid can't perform close to a highly developed electric sedan.

That's missing the point though, it's not the kind of car you would be buying for the range. The infrastructure for fast charging is getting better every year too. Personally i think its a shame that a car that looks that good has such a mediocre drivetrain.

I'm aware of this, but at the present moment said infrastructure is not at a state where it is practical for me to take a road trip across the country. As for the i8's drivetrain, it's more impressive than the numbers suggest, thanks in part due to the weird 4WD system. It will also handle a bit better since it weighs half a ton less too. It's important to bear in mind that a lot of the technology on this car is going to be trickling down into the regular BMWs and Minis (and maybe even Rolls Royce)

+Bailey Smith The infrastructure is far better than you think. You would be able to make a road trip across the country without a problem at all. You should check out their current supercharger map, you obviously don't know how large their infrastructure is. It's hard to compare drivetrains when the Model S practically doesn't have one, but what difference does it make when the Model S puts the i8 to shame in acceleration anyways. As for the handling, obviously a family sedan that will seat up to 7 won't corner like a car that will basically seat 2. However, if you look at track times for the cars, the Model S still outperforms the i8 on a track because of the acceleration. The cornering on a Model S is definitely different than a sports car, but you would be shocked how lively it feels through corners.

Of course only Cooley can finally get this car right for reviewing. Everyone compares it to a 911 or some other sports car. Thats NOT what the i8 is, its an economy car; it has skinny tires, its not designed for canyon carving. Does it happen to hit 60 in 4 seconds, sure, does it happen to look more crazy than even any supercar? Absolutely. This is an i not an M. That being said BMW please make a M8 with the M3 or M5 engine and ditch the AWD and electric motor and lets see it go all out!

Dominik first of all I don't even like BMW. I am a s class kind of guy. but I was responding to the guy that said something about a Tesla. this BMW ( although I don't like BMW that much ) is way better then a freaking Tesla S P85D.

Dominik well my only reason thinking this BMW is better then the model S is.....well it's a BMW. that's it. I need to read up on the Model S because to tell you the truth I am ignorant about the car. however I been hearing a lot about it lately...good things....s class BMW 7 series things. like people are saying it's in their class. i'm going to watch some videos of this S model Tesla. when I think luxury I think Mercedes ( of course ) BMW, Jaguar, Audi, Lexus, Bentley, RR etc. I don't throw Tesla in their but a lot of other people say it is in their and it can hold it's own with every one of them. so maybe you are right & I am wrong. ok in my defense....every time I watch a video of the top 10 luxury cars of 2015-2016 they never include Tesla.....I mean never. so even though you & a lot of people say Tesla is good....the experts don't think so

tee duke I would also like to point out that it's hard to take someone's opinion on a car seriously when they're a kid who hasn't driven a vehicle before. I doubt you have even seen either of these vehicles up close. Let me know once you've driven both of them, and then we can actually have a debate on the subject.

The exhaust sound is fake buddy, it's through the internal speakers in the cabin. BMW is doing that in a lot of cars now, even the M5.

First of all if you try and order one there is a 2 year waiting list and if you are lucky enough to find a dealer who has one already in stock they won't let you have it unless you fork out $30 grand over list ....European prices in America? No way I'll just wait until I find a cheap salvage one at auction...

+Mike L it'd actually be the other way round for me. the 911 is a timeless design-god, one of the best looking cars ever. the bmw i8 looks like pretentious nonsense to me, but bmw's almost always give you a superior driving and handling experience in comparison to other cars - the only reason bmw is this successful.

dong Li from what I've read the sound is not speakers air is forced through openings on the car and it make the sound of a revving V8. it's a good sound especially when you consider it's a hybrid car
