+Old School Vids yea saw an all black one, underwhelmed, black hides the design, but the white one is stunning. my neighbor has the i3 in white, looks like the future. not for everyone, but I love the futuristic next level look.

Awesome review! Car looks like it's from Back To The Future. Too bad it has a 3 cylinder engine, could do much better with a V6 at least. Does it really take 2 hours to charge and drive for only 17 miles on electric? You can't own this car if you live in Dubai because we don't have much electric pumps I don't think I've even encountered one.

can this run on the gasoline engine alone? is the electric motor optional depending on the driving mode I chose? If you have $130K for a futuristic supercar, would you rather have this i8 or used Murcielago?

+Prince Mauhdi III NO the electric motor is not optional, because the engine is only 3 cylinder and 150 horsepower, so it would be sluggish. You do have the option to not charge the car though, in which case it acts like a Prius or Civic Hybrid (no plugs on those) .

+Prince Mauhdi III CERTAINLY wouldn't buy a 3 cylinder car like i8 (unless it's a Ford Focus for a mere 15,000). For 150,000 I'd want a V10 or V12 monster .

electrictroy2010 agreed. i8 is an intriguing concept, but my heart beats more when I see Lambo Murci, Aventador & Reventon, more than any other. I trust my gut, Ive decided. In Dark Knight Grigio color.

It ain't ugly but it still screams I'm a hybrid/electric and that pretty much kills it from being beautiful. By comparison any Tesla can blend in and be mistaken for a ICE vehicle and yet be quiet and truly beautiful. To me at least the i3 is an assault on the eyes and the i8 is an attempt to look cool by giving up practicality. Those doors are going to fail after a year and you will wonder why you spent over a $130K. Nice try BMW, maybe you'll get it right the next round.

The way this car is built is very impressive. Are you telling us that Tesla's Falcon doors are going to be more reliable ? The Tesla is ok, but if you are 6'3" like me, you don't fit in it. Which is such a engineering waste for such a large sedan.

No both doors are a weak point and likely to fail in the future but give the design and location on the Tesla X those doors do serve a realistic purpose and are likely to hold out better but as someone who has owned a DeLorean, it is a weak point. Also I'm only 6'1" but I also know that cars aren't designed for drivers over 6' so it isn't a design flaw or a waste. It's just an unfortunate fact for taller drivers.

+YODAddyLIVE you can't seriously think a Tesla is a better buy than an i8. This car is cool as fuck, its next level. Then again, you like the concept of blending in with the crowd, so no, hyper sportscars are not for you. Tesla is boring, copies off Panamera design, might as well buy the electric Pana version. and those vertical doors you dont like, Tesla just put the same ones on their Model X, they want attention too, not to blend in. the Tesla fans just like Elon Musk and like the concept, there's nothing special about it besides the tablet size stereo screen, and even that is showing up in Ford cars now via Microsoft SYNC. Otherwise it looks like a Hyundai.

Would triple its sales if they offered a v8 or v10. Tree huggers in general dislike cars of any ilk, so I can't see it selling much.

+Louie bam bam Elwood I agree, and tree huggers dont like the idea of driving a BMW badge and that image of prestige, power, luxury, they are very anti all of that. The image they upkeep for social front is more important that their own ranking and security. Steve Jobs was a good example of environmental hippie who also knew the importance of power.

vuthina roeun I think BMW sees this as a discount version of a LaFerrari (MSRP nearly $1 Million) or a McLaren. Still, over $150k is pricey for any vehicle. You can buy 3 BMW X1's for this price.

+vuthina roeun exclusivity, anyone can buy a 3 series, 5 series and join the BMW club, but only a few can buy this toy. A familiar prestigious BMW badge everyone recognizes, mixed with a hyper electric sports car, well worth $130K, though you could buy a Panamera and Audi R8 both for the same price, the i8 would get more attention on the street.

I actually seen one of these in person. it wasn't that impressive looking. why would anyone buy one of these electric cars? it's like a job in it's self just to take care of it. you have to make shore it is charged every day. you can't go that far from you're house because you don't know where there are charging station. man I wouldn't buy one.

+tee duke YOU don't waste time detouring to a gasoline station if you have an EV. So you eliminate that hassle when you upgrade. And plugging-in when you pull into the garage is as easy as plugging-in your cellphone each night. (Plus since this is a hybrid you don't have to plugin if you simply don't feel like it.) .

+exodus3252 youd rather have a car that looks like a Ford in front, Hyundai in back, and tried to copy the Panamera shape.. in 30 years, the i8 will still look hot, and the Tesla range, will still look like an old Ford, probably shut down. That garage charger is a hassle and unrealistic. Even the mega rich dues in Dubai who buy every car that comes out, arent buying Tesla, anyone who really knows about cars can see Tesla is just an electric gimmick niche with tablet size stereo, not much more.
