Its impossible to recreate the magic that was the original trilogy. They "captured lightning in a bottle" as Mark Hamil said himself. But at least the prequels were unique, bold and took risks and built an entire universe that we enjoy today. The Force Awakens on the other hand literally just recreated episode 4 with some modern touches without the original magic

I feel so bad for Jake Lloyd in this! Wasn't his fault. Lucas really should have designed the trilogy to feature ONE actor portraying Anakin Skywalker. Served nothing by making him a kid. (We had ONE Luke Skywalker for three movies, we should have had ONE Anakin Skywalker for the prequels.) Have Hayden play him as an impetuous teenager in that podrace. Wouldn't have fixed all the problems but it would have helped unite those three movies a little more. And would have spared Jake Lloyd the indignity of being in just one episode and being setup to fail. He could have done other movies, with better directors, and had more success.

25% of adults were very lucky. Lucas should've used a role like Jar Jar's, and made him Darth Plagueis. Now that would've been a twist the Prequels needed. Imagine early through episode 3 Sidious kills Jar Jar Plagueis and then tells Anakin where did Jar Jar vanish and he was indeed the head mastermind.
@DanielCh93938 жыл бұрын
Daniel Zuzek I think that was the original idea and that's why Lucas said "Jar Bar is the key to all of this". However, the extremely negative reception of the character, forced him to reimagine the story for episodes II and III and leave Jar Jar out.
@danielzuzek30348 жыл бұрын
I do know that, however many can't get their head around that idea still. I rewatched Phantom Menace, and the Jar Jar character is just plain awkward, and just doesn't gel with the other characters. He is like some gatecrasher to a party he would never for a millennium be invited to. He is a trickster too and this is their art of manipulation. He's also really creepy, and it makes total sense Lucas would do the Yoda type scenario of Empire with Jar Jar. It's actually annoying he didn't follow through with it, because all you have now is this awkward thing they spend 2 further films in fading out. If only the creature was less rubbery, less exploitative it could've been endearing, and then we wouldn't have the shitty Count Dooku add in. It makes no sense in the timeline I feel for there to be a Jedi of the calibre of Dooku going rogue and dark, or just out of the picture for Qui-Gon Jinn to consult with during a very significant time with the discovery of Anakin and being confronted by the Sith, without any rumblings in the Jedi council also. So was Dooku just laying about on the Greek islands or something during Phantom menace. Yes sure in the EU there is probably an expansion into his whereabouts, but thats all a croc of shit anyway to retcon.

@SwaggerLikeUz9 жыл бұрын
As a true SW fan I love all the films, the prequels have their moments, but the originals were amazing. The universe, the story, and the timeless characters George created to me are the greatest modern mythology today. I believe George's mistake was waiting so long to do those prequels, cause they should of been made in the late 80s or early 90's. At that time he still was in his prime as a storyteller/creator, cause everything Lucas was involved in during those years was still great. By the 00's that window closed and the prequels suffered due to it. George had people who challenged his opinion in the beginning, like Mark Hamil and Harrison said "They all filled in the blanks". That Jar Jar Binks stuff would of never happened in the original trilogy, cause young George Lucas would of known that would destroyed any chance of SW becoming a hit. That's why I'm glad he sold it to Disney, cause that universe he created can live on. Now it can grow and expand with younger storytellers, new creative writers, and new great directors who will keep that magic alive.

Looking back is easy I know but here we are, in 2017, trying to pretend the prequels never happened. And what have the studios done to reassure old time fans they're serious about making decent movies? They have re-hired the original cast, as far as they're still alive and capable.

Despite the flaws the movie had and all the complaints people make about it constantly. I enjoyed the hype that came with it before it released. And I enjoyed my experience at the theater when it was finally released. And to this day I still enjoy the movie for the entertainment value it has. People still try to look for that same nostalgia they had when they first saw the original Star Wars by comparing that experience to the experience of the prequels and beyond that with the new films. There is no going back to that time when cinema was that special. There is no more ground to break in that universe. People will now always complain and compare everything that comes out to the original films. How can any new Star Wars film fare very well with that stigma on its back. To me Episode I and beyond have been interesting to watch. I loved all the movies and I'm glad I didn't attach myself so heavily and emotionally to a point where all I see is the negative aspects of everything in these movies. It was a form of escapism and for that I definitely thank the makers of these movies. George clearly only wants to entertain people the best he can. Yeah he doesn't always have the best ideas with his filmmaking and writing ideas during these times. But you have to give credit where it's due. He created a massive universe where we now see so many stories come out of it. Some are good and some aren't so good and that's okay. I think it mirrors life in a way. Not all stories can be over the top amazing like it was the first time we stepped into that galaxy far far away. It will never be the same.. I'm sorry people get so disappointed with the prequels but I liked them despite their flaws. I like these movies despite the constant negativity and butchering of everyday know it all's on forums like KZbin where it seems everyone has some smart idea to make these movies better. Nobody can capture lightening in a bottle again. Stop looking for it in these new films. Enjoy the stories while you can. It's only getting bigger and deeper.

Everyone was so happy back then, George, little Anakin. Before the dark times, before the cancerous Prequels hate. A hate that ruined the life of many, including George Lucas. Sad.

He had fifteen years to write a good script or just give an outline and have multiple competing writers write a movie and he could choose the best one. It was a pathetic movie. I gave episode 2 a chance, and after that I was out. I did see Rogue One for free online which was decent.

I'm a fan of the Star Wars films and all; but, wow! Who would of thought that a senior in high school would waste 6 weeks from school in line JUST to see a movie?! And to top it off: her own mom was COMPLETELY okay with it! *shakes head* Some people, man.

I don't think you can compare the hype for episode 1 to the hype for The Force Awakens, when episode 1 came out it was hard to fathom that a Star Wars movie could be garbage, this time around it is a lot easier to believe it.

+Commodore Schmidlapp I'm still surprised at how much hype there was for Force Awakens. It was like everyone had amnesia.
@marlonbosch27179 жыл бұрын
BardicLiving No. It was Lucasfilm marketing campaign that showed us how good the movie might be
@SalvableRuin9 жыл бұрын
+Commodore Schmidlapp It is ironic. Everyone thought Episode I would be amazing it is was terrible. But they believed it would be awesome so strongly that many people loved it and only realized later that it was bad. Yet because of the prequels, many people were certain The Force Awakens would be terrible, and even though it was amazing, many people still believe so strongly that it should be a bad movie that they still think it is bad, haha.
@SalvableRuin9 жыл бұрын
+BardicLiving They were hyped because it isn't the same situation at all. Maybe you have amnesia. Just because it is Star Wars doesn't mean it has the same director, producer, etc. It didn't even come out in the same decade.

+Ernie Vc The movie was good, the biggest problem is that it's practically the same story as Star Wars: New Hope
@ernievc9 жыл бұрын
That's why it's not a good movie. The title is Episode VII, for crying out loud, the movie was supposed to be a continuation, not a remake of the original Star Wars... and another Death Star!: I didn't want a retelling (A New Hope) of an already retold (Return of the Jedi) plot. VII is as much of a cash crap!... Even the prequels were more original!

If this was filmed with a modern, crisp camera and 1.85 aspect ratio, would we be able to tell by their clothing that this was the late '90s? I'm not sure, actually. T-shirts (a bit large and loosey goosey) are still around, so are suits.
@6ixEntertainment8 жыл бұрын
George said he was gonna take a vacation once the movie came out. What he really meant was that he was going into hiding because he knew his fans would be disappointed. He was even disappointed.
