DIY degassing valve for stale coffee but faster... you don't want to degas your coffee after a certain point. For pour over 2 - 5 days of degassing and then sealed as tightly as possible until use, espresso 7-14 days of degassing and then seal as tightly as you can. The quicker you let the CO2 out the faster your coffee will get stale... the more you know.

You're absolutely right about controlled degassing for optimal flavor! This DIY degassing valve container, as you see, is specifically designed for single-dose storage of freshly roasted coffee beans during that initial degassing period, not for long-term storage after the recommended rest times (2-5 days for pour-over, 7-14 for espresso). The valve allows the excess CO2 to escape during those initial days, preventing pressure buildup in these smaller, single-dose containers. After that initial degassing period, as you mentioned, sealing as tightly as possible is indeed the best approach to preserve those volatile aromatics. Thanks for pointing that out and adding valuable context!

Hi, interesting comment. I've been searching the internet for information like this, and found very little. Are there studies done about this topic and published somewhere?

@@cirrus820 Thanks! It can be tricky to find in-depth studies on this specific topic. While published research may be limited, there's a lot of valuable information available from industry professionals and coffee science experts. Several resources discuss ideal resting times based on roast level and taste preferences. This website dives deeper into the science behind resting with a study that explores different rest periods: thecaptainscoffee.com/pages/resting-fresh-roasted-coffee.

@@liuwenlong6992 Haha, busted! You caught me. I did consult my digital overlords...but only for a thesaurus. The rest-caffeine-fueled rambling and research from good websites-was all me. Glad it came across well! ☕
