Adding but pads for training stability is a brilliant idea! I have noticed in my sea kayak (a Nordkapp HS, so for a sea kayak not very stable) every cm counts. Specially when you are a taller person, because when you're a tall person your center of gravity is much higher, thus you have more stability problems then a small person in the same boat. As far as the safety I always take a VHF radio and flares, specially when I paddle alone!

Yes keep putting on pads and you will eventually be able to paddle a surfski then a K1😜

Thank you for this Oscar. One question: how do you ensure your butt can rotate on the pads? What are the pads made from is it a slider material?

Best way to make slippery enough is to put a plastic shopping bag on top

Paddling k1, I get numb heels after an hour or so. Relieve it by lifting heel off hull. Wondered if it is partly due to tight hamstrings.

Oh, and only happens when doing steady paddling sessions, not interval sessions.

My leg/s, starting from the toes, sometimes go numb, it's a shocker. Losing that feeling in a K1 decimates both leg drive and balance. Can't feel the feet in a K1, balance goes out the window

I've always relaxed my upper hand of the driving shoulder, cycling it open & closed almost like lungs or a heart - in and out/very relaxed/lightly clenched. Now after your suggestions, I've been clawing the lower hand on pull-back of the stroke. With hands relaxed, how does one get body weight upon the stroke which you suggest is so critical? Isn't the power generated in a initial, powerful downward movement? Thank you.

I honestly never use much leg drive ive tried and tried, changed seat lengths trained doing drills to force me using legs.I got some reasonable results bronze medals doubles, relays and things like that.I didnt believe paddlers used much legs until I saw ALL the top paddlers look like they cycling. How the hell do u get the leg drive?

You have to drills where you just focus in your leg drive. I have videos on this.
