Most of it wasn't really scripted, at least the first season was basically all improv that they figure out how to animate later on. The laughs are genuine reactions from unexpected twists in where the stories would go.

The thing about all the "discord call" comparisons is that a lot of this series' dialogue was improvised; so sketches like these literally were just the voice actors trying to come up with something funny on the spot and talking over each other. They basically were having a discord call.

McGuirk is insane & dumb but has the personality of a genius. A somewhat psychopathic genius but still. He's analytical & pragmatic, at least in regards to intent, even if a lot of his choices are bad. He's the type to fail, not because he panicked, did nothing, or didn't read someone but because he very determinedly made the wrong choice. Plus he was very right for pretty much this entire scene.
