The obvious is still the obvious. Rudolph looks very COMFORTABLE with handling the offense, the offense is responding and looking competitive again and the team is generating an "A" game again. Rudolph offers the best shot at whatever best shot there is and for Tomlin to at least acknowledge this is a step in the right direction.

Mason deserves this. He’s also proving why he deserves the starting spot. You shouldn’t get that spot for just being a number one pick. You have to show why you’re a number one pick and Kenny hasn’t done that unfortunately. We don’t know what kind of future Kenny will have when gets more development, but as one right now. Mason has shown he’s the most developed and consistent player behind center. He’s put up the most points. The most yards. He’s shown us what we could have had early on in the year. Why Mason was the 3rd string is beyond me. The coaches fumbled this one.

I wasn’t on the Mason train before, but I can admit now. He looks damn good. I hope he continues to play like he has. He needs to continue to play like he isn’t going to play next week. Who knows what the hell is going to happen this offseason, but I’m kinda wanting Mason to get that starting position for next year. They can let Kenny develop behind the scenes like Mason did. Kenny’s problem is the same as masons before. He’s too uncomfortable in the pocket. Kenny has flashes but that’s only when he’s sees a shot. If the pressure comes on too quick. He’s instantly out of the pocket. Not able to finish his reads and then has to try and make those reads on the move with even more pressure mounting. He’s not built for that. Masons been successful because he’s stayed in the pocket. He has the confidence in his o line to protect him and they have. It’s easier to block for someone when you know where they’ll be. They can position their bodies towards him, but if he’s just going to dart out. Then there’s nothing they can do and they get blamed for bad protection.

What i particularly liked was Tomlin's answer to the question, "Is Mason Rudolph the best QB on your roster right now?" You know he was never going to say yes. But this particular answer wasn't just one of those snide remarks that ultimately meant no but in a nicer way. His answer showed that they might finally be truly evaluating the QB room. I've been a Mason fan since the draft. I even still have the text messages between my best friend and i where i was hoping the steelers would take him. I don't believe he's ever gotten a fair shake and now he's kinda forcing the team to give him a fair shot, but it may be too little too late as he is a free agent this off-season. I'm glad the team is winning and I'm glad Rudolph is playing well. But it masks the overall problem. WHY WASN'T MASON RUDOLPH THE STARTING QB, OR AT THE VERY LEAST THE #2? And that's Tomlin playing favorites and, once again, putting too much stock into where a player was drafted. Pickett was a reach. He could've and probably should've slipped farther than Will Levis did. Rudolph slipped much farther than anyone anticipated. Kenny may have been the best QB in the 22 draft. Doesn't mean he was better than the 6th best in the 18 draft.

Yeah, there is little doubt they seem to worry more about "pedigree" than actually performance, but with the pedigree comes being paid more money so that is the problem that they face when making these "kinds" of decisions....so when you bring in a free agent QB 1st round bust and pay him $10M, of course they are going to play him over Rudolph.....as well as taking a QB in the 1st round as he was selected to replace Rottenburger.......so that is more of a political issue than a money issue, but nonetheless plays a huge role

Even if Mason wins this game and the team doesn't get into the playoffs he did his job. He lead the team and put points on the board and didn't leave it to the defense to bail him out. He seen the open receivers and got the ball to them. He understood what the defenses were doing and he attacked them and stood in the pocket and made plays. You can't ask for anything else from a quarterback.

Rudolph is looking good. The team looks like a decent football team, finally. But the Ravens is a very hard test with their play right now. I'll be cheering for a win, but expect an L. With that said, if our D is on and the offense plays like the last two games, it is going to be a close good game and if the Ravens do play their second string the W will come.

Watching Tomlin speak in this vid, he appears to be surprised that Mason is going well as we all are. But Tomlin has to talk like he knew Mason would be good the whole time. If coaches just let Mason play all this time, they may not have had to draft Pickett. Mason will be gone next season and that team may get a great QB while the Steelers get pie in the face for missing a very good QB they had all this time. They should have been patient with Mason and tried him for a season or two, just like they are with Pickett.

I haven't been a fan of Rudolph, but perhaps maturity/humility have served him well in last 2 years. Pickett regardless of OC is struggling with hitting guys in stride, he's missing his WR high from what I can see and while I'd rather see Pickett develop (as I still don't think Rudolph is the long term answer) I think they have to roll with Rudolph this week and stay with him if they make it to the playoffs. If Pickett given another chance next season, they need an OC that plays to his strength and let him roll out more.

2 skewed drafts, 2 wasted camps and 31 wasted games before Mike Tomlin could swallow his hubris and give Rudolph a fair chance. At the end of '21, Tomlin had a backup QB with a winning record on his roster. Pickett is a career back up, Trubisky has always been a mistake.

Kenny's a clock management qb, and mason likes to take risks. I will say mason is playing with a chip, and with nothing to lose mentality. So he is probably taking more shots than kenny would in a normal game. Mason also sat behind ben for a few years and should be recognized as a veteran, not a second year rookie with an awful offense coordinator. Give Kenny some credit. I will say I was hoping for a shirt that said Pickett to Pickens, but when it only happens like 3 times in 14 games....its just never gunna happen.

@@FrankHerrera-qr1mh Yeah. Ben still wanted to play, but he knew our patience had worn thin and there is nothing like watching the guy they drafted to replace you outplay you. So he has and is doing everything to prevent that from happening. Quite successfully too, since Mason was demoted for no apparent reason to QB#3 at the end of the 2022 training camp right after Ben's visit. We ALL know that BOTH Mason & Kenny outplayed Mitch. Local town pressure with Ben got Kenny elevated to #2 with all the Boo-Birds and college Kenny fans booing Mason (by-the-way who boos their own players for no reason in the preseason?). Kenny & Mitch both played in the ACC...not that hard to shine against the overall talent in the ACC.

With a defensive coach with buddies all over the league,is it no wonder that Mason had to ride the bench for a couple of years. They drafted Mason for a reason, but he got knocked out and the bum rap for his career began. Now everyone knows that mediocre Mikey ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer. I mean he got lax behind a hall of fame QB. So I blame the Roonies for keeping this guy around longer than he needs to be. And tomlinites, don't get caught up in this team getting wins. It's the personell, not the coach. Tomlin went with a loser against two of the worst record teams in 2023 at home and lost. How genius is that,tomlinites.

😂😂😂 said the same thing! We could have just played Mason and waited for a better draft class. We drafted Kenny in the 1st round cause we didn't want anyone to get him. No teams were going to draft Kenny in the first 3 rounds except Atlanta. All the QBs sucked that year except Purdy and he was a fluke

@@jtfike The def wins games not the offense. The Defense not only keeps teams from scoring but the def scores TDs and gets turnovers on short fields. The way to determine if a player sucks or not is by examining what we would get in a trade. TJ Watt we would get a 1st round plus. Kenny Pickett would not get us a 7th round pick because only about 30-40 Steelers fans actually think he is good or going to be good in the future. The rest of the league would not look out way for a trade.
