Do everyone remember what Gabby said when Angel tried to recruit her back to the sky.. there were reasons why she said never would I play for that organization again. This makes me so sick. I need Reese and Cardoso out of Chicago. This is not a good environment for anyone to grow. It takes time to rebuild and add the right players to the roster. Id blame some of the players for coach spoons firing. Coach was a great tough no quit of a player in her day. She’s a much more advanced coach than the Indy fever coach but the difference was the Fever players never quit, played when band up, and absolutely played there best down the stretch when it really mattered. While spoons had carter to deal with and her absence and most of all Reese and her sore wrist, sure. That makes a coach look bad. Especially when she more than had there backs all year and to pull that quitter crap. You can’t coach character. Why is everyone surprised by this? How many games did you guys watch? The Sky took losses that were not the result of the other teams but more in what looked like a lack in correcting fundamental errors. I blame the owner too, giving the Sky basically a public gym and not a real facility shows the level of investment. The type of losses Sky took were COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE and it looks like somewhere there was a break in communication. Even Reese said she was not aggressive enough as far as input as a coach, its clear as day this falls on the coach and management.

I called this after the first 2 weeks the season started. She’s not the right coach for that team. She actually had the “Big 3” and sometimes you need to get that shyt right the FIRST time. I think she will do a lot better with a more seasoned team. The Sky need a different kind of coach. I personally feel the Sky should’ve been a top 3 team this year. I’m looking forward to the change. Spoon had several of the outstanding rookies in the league in Reese and Cardoso along with seasoned players like Mabry who had extreme talent; however, she wasted her attention on Reese getting stupid double-doubles rather than having her rebound and pass out to the perimeter and she did not allow Cardoso playing time as much as she should have. She also condoned bad behavior and sportsmanship on the court by not putting a stop to it, especially after the flagrant fouls by Carter and Reese against Caitlin Clark. The argument that ensued in the Sky locker room during Cardoso's media appearance definitely showed there were big personal issues on this team. Honestly, I think Spoon did not exert management over her players like Reese and Carter which led to the unhappiness that Mabry escaped. I hope Spoon, who I loved as a player, will learn lessons from her experience with the Sky and apply them in her next coaching job.

Transparency, I'm a huge T-Spoon fan. I respect her greatly. That being written, how do you fire a coach after one season? Look at the moves Chicago made for the 2024 season: gave up Marina Mabrey after All-Star break, Kahleah Copper wanted out, didn't even give their second round pick Sika Kone a shot. Seriously, ever since Elena Delle Donne left to go to her hometown team (Washington), the Sky organization just can't figure things out. Maybe Teresa can coach the LA Sparks after the Sparks fired Curt Miller.

Well… I know we all have our own opinion. I really wanted to like Teresa Weatherspoon. But when she did not check either of her players after Carter knocked Clark to the ground, and Reese jumped up and cheered, I lost all respect for her. I am new to the WNBA this year, and that kind of behavior was appalling to me. And then, the locker room debacle. She had lost control.

Sorry, she was promoting the wrong culture for her team instead of mentoring them into professional basketball players. Marina Mabrey saw the writing on the wall early and got herself out of there and into a better winning environment. I hate to see anyone lose their job but she had an opportunity to shape Angel into a professional basketball player but it was more important to keep her brand and her stat padding.
